Officer Struck, Injured During Altercation

Newtown Police arrested a man after he injured an officer during an altercation.

At approximately 6:05 pm May 19, officers were dispatched to 39 Tunnel Road regarding a motor vehicle incident where a vehicle struck a rock wall and mailbox and then continued driving.

Michael Triantafilidis, 25, of Southbury, was given a misdemeanor summons for evading responsibility for property damage. During the officers’ investigation, Triantafilidis began to fight with his brother. When officers attempted to separate the two, Triantafilidis struck an officer in the head, causing a laceration.

Triantafilidis was arrested for interfering with an officer/resisting arrest, and assault on public safety, emergency medical or public transit personnel.

He was released on a promise to appear with court dates of May 24 and May 30 in Danbury Superior Court.
