Scholarships Available For

Audubon Summer Day Camp

SOUTHBURY — The Audubon Center at Bent of the River, through the generosity of the Lillinonah Audubon Society, has a number of scholarships available for children interested in attending Audubon’s Summer Day Camp. Scholarship applications should be submitted by June 10. Call the Audubon Center at 264-5098 for scholarship information and/or to register for day camp.

Scholarships are available for all three day-camp programs –– Audubon Naturalists, Watershed Wizards or Eco-Discoverers for children entering grades four through eight.

Audubon’s programs each offer a unique outdoor experience in the midst of a beautiful, richly diverse and fascinating 660-acre natural setting. The Pomperaug River meanders through the Bent, where otters and ducks and frogs and little critters living under the rocks swim and play and eat and breed. There are meadows exploding with wildflowers and forests full of all kinds of trees, rare orchids, insects and animal hideouts.

Naturalists, Wizards and Eco-Discoverers get to unravel the mysteries of nature through hands-on activities in this alive, rich and fun environmental laboratory.

Each day camp session is limited in size to ten campers and with a student-teacher ratio of five to one, campers receive a lot of personal attention from very experienced instructors. Each camp session is five days, Monday through Friday.

During the weeks of July 5, 11, 18 and 25, two of the programs are available: the Audubon Naturalist Day Camp for children entering grades four and five, and the Eco-Discoverer Day Camp for children entering grades six to eight. During the weeks of August 1 and 8, children entering grades five and six can attend the Watershed Wizard Day Camp.

The center is at 185 East Flat Hill Road in South Britain, about a half mile from Connecticut Route 172.
