The Children’s Adventure Center (CAC) is planning a “get to know us” event on Saturday, June 7, to showcase its spruced up playground, a bright Sunshine Room, and a new “Joy of Books” Library recently donated by The Rotary Club of Newtown. The event will take place from 11 am until 1 pm.

Board members and parents will be serving a free lunch consisting of children’s: pizza, salad and wraps, as well as ice cream and watermelon. Plenty of parking is available in the school lot at 14 Riverside Road.

CAC Director Judy Sims and professional staff will conduct tours and explain the early childhood experience offered at the center. Children and parents can enjoy the center’s playground, including a wooden train playscape donated last summer by the CAC Parent Group.

The Sunshine Room currently houses an art studio for CAC’s up-and-coming famous artists as well as some of their work.

The open house will also feature Glen Morris of Woodbury, offering pony rides for the young guests. Story telling and other entertainment will also be offered.

Newtown’s original preschool, The Children’s Adventure Center was created by parents and community groups in 1969 to provide excellence in education in an enriching, enjoyable environment designed for the development of the whole child.

CAC is staffed with early educational professionals and is licensed by the Connecticut State Department of Health, the State Department of Education, holds five-year accreditation with NAEYC, is a delegate agency of the Town of Newtown, has 501(c)(3) designation, and has a board of directors elected from among Newtown citizens.
