Connecticut Open House Day Returning June 11

Connecticut residents and families do not have to travel too far - or spend too much - to experience all the state has to offer this summer. More than 170 local attractions from historical sites and museums to renowned theaters and unique food stops will offer free or discounted admission, special activities, giveaways and hands-on activities for all ages kids on Connecticut Open House Day 2016, scheduled for Saturday, June 11.ctvisit.com/connecticut-open-house-day-june-11-2016. The popular statewide event, now in its 12th year, invites residents to discover and rediscover Connecticut's fascinating world of art, history and visitor experiences. And with more than 170 local attractions in towns and cities across the state participating, residents can plan a day to delight everyone in their group.

EverWonder Children's Museum, 31 Pecks Lane in Newtown, is among the locations participating in this year's event. The museum will offer free admission between 10 am and noon, and half-price admission ($3.50 per person) from noon until 5 pm.

Participating attractions in this area also include General David Humphrey's House, Ansonia; Bethel Historical Society; Downtown Cabaret Theatre and New England Ballet Company, both in Bridgeport; Brookfield Craft Center and Brookfield Theatre for the Arts; and @287 Gallery & Meeting Place, Art at Ives, Gallery at Still River Editions, Trailer Box Gallery and Danbury Museum & Historical Society, all in Danbury.

Also offering incentives for visits will be Kellogg Environmental Center & Osborne Homestead Museum, Derby; Pratt Nature Center, New Milford; and The Aldrich Contemporary Art Museum, Suzanne Benton Studio & Art Showcase and Thali, all in Ridgefield.

In addition, SportsCenter of Connecticut, Shelton; Shelton History Center; Sherman Historical Society; Bullet Hill School, Southbury; Captain David Judson House, Stratford; Hollister House Garden, Washington; Fascia's Chocolates and The Mattatuck Museum, both in Waterbury; Bellamy-Ferriday House & Garden in Bethlehem; and Glebe House Museum & Gertrude Jekyll Garden, Woodbury, will be participating in Connecticut Open House Day.

Randy Fiveash, director of the Connecticut Office of Tourism, said he and others in the Connecticut Office of Tourism invite everyone "to enjoy the state's dynamic blend of attractions and experiences for another Open House Day."

"So many businesses are eager to throw their doors open and participate," he added. "It is yet another example of the collaboration that fuels the state's $14 billion tourism industry."
