Newtown High School's boys' volleyball team will take on Darien in the Class L state tournament semifinals Tuesday, June 4. The match will take place at neutral site Fairfield Warde High, 755 Melville Avenue in Fairfield. It begins at 7 pm.

Tickets are $5 for students and seniors and $10 for adults.

Newtown is the No. 2 seed in the bracket; Darien is the third seed and suffered its only defeat of the campaign at the hands of the Nighthawks in a five-set battle back on March 30.

Both teams won their conference championships: Newtown in the South-West Conference and Darien in the Fairfield County Interscholastic Athletic Conference.

Darien beat No. 14 Shelton 3-0 and No. 6 Danbury 3-1 to reach the semifinal. Newtown, after a first-round bye, defeated No. 7 East Hartford 3-0 in the quarterfinals.

The top four state teams reached the semis. The winner of Newtown and Darien will face the winner of top-seeded Southington and No. 4 Staples of Westport in the championship match. The pinnacle match is set for Thursday, June 6, at neutral site Shelton High, beginning at 5 pm.
