The Brookfield Theatre for the Arts (TBTA) has canceled this week’s Virtual Thursday program.

The weekly experiences have been offered since April 23, with viewers treated to prerecorded performances, live staged readings and/or Studio B open studios.

Tonight’s program is canceled, the theater announced via e-mail, “to show our respect to Ahmaud Arbery, Breonna Taylor, and George Floyd, and in support of our neighbors and friends speaking out for justice.”

The series is expected to resume next week. Programs begin at 7:30 and are accessible through the theater’s website, brookfieldtheatre.org.

Upcoming Schedule

June 11: Staged reading of Straight Men Can’t Dance by Craig David Rosen, starring Tony Bosco-Schmidt (Rick), Zach Theis (Steven), Sam Bass (Dexter), Cooper Smithers (Brian), Jeramie Gladman (Paul/a), Kristin Aug (Bitsy), and Bob Lussier (Winston), with stage manager Robert Kruzykowsk;

June 18: Studio B — Party Night. Studio B is an open studio event where all are welcome to participate. Each Studio B has a theme, and performances can be prerecorded or done live. For June 18, the theater is requesting video clips of a song and/or a dance. Registration is due by June 14 and can be done through e-mail to press@brookfieldtheatre.org.

June 25: Staged reading of Hester by Morgana Kate Watson.

July 2: Happy Larry Stewart Day!

July 9: Studio B — Miscast. Participants are invited to perform a song or monologue for a character that they would likely never be cast as. Register by July 5.

July 16: Surprise Birthday Poetry Party. It’s Andy’s birthday and he loves poetry. Participants are asked to share their favorite poem. Those uncomfortable with reading/performing can submit a poem to the theater and a performer will be found. Register by July 12.

July 23: Staged reading of Connections by Jared Reynolds.

Additional projects are also in the works, including a possible Curbside Cabaret.

Updates and additional information will be posted on the theater’s website.
