Hey local business owners, staffers, and entrepreneurs — would you spend around 30 minutes of a weekday lunch hour to learn a thing or two from one or more of your Newtown professional cohorts?

If so, we have a place for you as part of The Newtown Bee’s Zoom & Learn Lunch League, presented in partnership with the Newtown Chamber of Commerce.

Beginning Tuesday, June 9, at 12:30 pm, just access The Newtown Bee’s YouTube site and take in the conversation as it happens live, or hit the site anytime to view any segments as they are archived. Just go to youtube.com/user/TheNewtownBee— the webcast will launch promptly at 12:30 pm.

Or go to The Newtown Bee’s Facebook page anytime after noon on June 9, and access a direct link to the webcast.

The Zoom & Learn webcasts will be hosted regularly by The Newtown Bee’s Business Page Editor and longtime broadcaster John Voket, and will aim to feature input from a Chamber representative and/or Newtown official, along with an in-depth chat with a featured guest, typically concentrating on a single subject of topical interest to businesses.

The premier segment will welcome First Selectman Dan Rosenthal, Chamber president Scott Anders, and featured guest, Newtown resident and registered interior designer Agni Pavlidou Kyprianou, NCIDQ, owner of APK Designs.

Whether you operate a local businesses that has already opened or are preparing to open under the state’s Phase 1 or upcoming Phase 2 criteria June 17, you may be looking for ways to make your interior and exterior customer service areas, offices, and/or sales floors more attractive or conducive to a safe customer experience.

Perhaps you are considering more permanent physical adjustments to your business to provide greater protections for customers and staff given the uncertain and unknowable future regarding recurrences of COVID-19 this summer and beyond.

Kyprianou will share tips and ideas she has researched or is already working on with her commercial clients, about elevating customer/staff protections above and beyond simple “plywood and Plexiglas” measures.

“I look at my work more holistically — creating a particular look and feel to interior commercial spaces,” she said in a recent Newtown Bee business feature.

Vision is something that has always been a key element of Kyprianou’s work — even before she launched her design firm out of her Newtown home. Originally schooled in computer programming, she spent her “first career” designing database applications for financial institutions and Wall Street clients. A native of Cyprus, Kyprianou then decided to pursue a lifelong love of design, and now holds a BFA in interior architecture and design from the Academy of Art University.

Today about 80 percent of her expertise is geared toward interior architecture versus decorating. Her expertise is somewhat unique, as many interior designers do not pursue her level of accreditation.

“You become familiar with dealing with fire codes, building codes, commercial grade materials and systems, and how to plan out commercial space,” she said.

Her commercial design portfolio includes the design of offices, bars, restaurants, spas, lobbies, and reception areas.

Kyprianou’s international flare incorporates timeless, classic elegance; midcentury modern design; minimalism; and transitional styles. Her designs are often inspired by nature, and she likes to incorporate natural materials whenever she can.

Tune in live, or view after the webcast June 9 to learn how your business can best accommodate COVID-19 guidelines and specifications while also creating safe spaces that feel good to be in for customers and staff.

Anyone wishing to submit a question in advance may do so by e-mail to john@thebee.com before noon on June 9. Look for news about future Zoom & Learn Lunch League webcasts in The Newtown Bee and at newtownbee.com.
