The Friends of the Second Company Governor’s Horse Guard (2GHG) hosted a Westchester Fairfield Dressage Association (WFDA) Clinic/Demonstration with Lendon Gray on Sunday.

The theme was “Dressage is for Every Horse.” While professional dressage riders often choose special breeds for high-level dressage work, Gray, a two-time Olympic rider, feels strongly that the discipline should not be limited to certain breeds.

Fourteen riders participated, and all received personal attention and professional advice from Gray. Auditors watched lessons with experienced dressage riders and novices alike.

Cari Swanson attended, riding RJ Masterbug, a very talented paint horse featured in the movie Hidalgo. RJ was originally trained as a Western horse and Swanson has used that training as a basis for teaching him dressage. The stallion was slightly distracted by the presence of a mare, but managed to compose himself.

Several members of 2GHG participated. Mounts included DJ, a thoroughbred, Elmo, an appendix quarter horse, Indiana Jones, a quarter horse, Gabriel, an Irish cobb and Custer, a mustang.

Riders also came from area barns and provided spectators with a wide range of talent and experience. All of the riders and equines benefited from the expert advice Gray. Paints, ponies and draft horses alike helped Gray prove that dressage is indeed, for every horse.
