AP — SCULPTURE DISAPPEARS FROM N.J. YARD

AVV 6-4 #741679

HOPEWELL TOWNSHIP, N.J. (AP) — There is fear a Lambertville man’s art could become a junkyard’s treasure.

Dana Stewart’s 100-pound bronze sculpture has been missing for more than a week.

“The Wave,’’ valued at $5,000, was just one piece of a four-structure work on display in a friend’s Hopewell Township lawn along Route 29. Thieves first tried to drag away three bigger pieces, but were unsuccessful.

Police say it took at least two people to move the sculptures, which were attached to the ground with steel beams.

Officers say its possible the thieves want to melt down the piece for scrap metal.

His friend is offering a reward for “The Wave.’’

The remaining sculptures will remain on display with a new base.
