Andrew Comcowich, 88, of Sandy Hook and The Villages, Fla., passed away peacefully on April 7, 2020, at the River Glen Health Care Center in Southbury. Born on April 17, 1931, he was the son of the late Asafat and Mary Comcowich. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by seven brothers and sisters.

Andrew was the loving husband of Elizabeth (Casazza) Comcowich, enjoying a wonderful 45-year marriage with her. They would often be seen every morning at local diners enjoying their breakfast together.

Andrew was a 1950 graduate of Shelton High School and very proud to have been an All-State basketball player while there.

Andrew was a longtime resident of Redding before moving to Sandy Hook in 2002. He was a volunteer fireman while in Redding. Andrew was also a Justice of the Peace for over 20 years and was very proud to have performed many weddings over the years.

Andrew worked for 50 years for the Bridgeport Hydraulic Co/Aquarian Water Co, until he retired in 1993 as a field surveyor and then continued working there after retirement for several more years.

Andy loved sports and was affectionately known as “Coach” to many people. His favorite teams to cheer for were the Yankees, NY Jets (there will always be next year!), and UConn basketball, especially the women’s teams. Andy loved playing golf, was a past member of the Newtown Country Club, and scored a hole-in-one at the age of 85 while in Florida. Andy was very happy to relate the story of how he met pro golfer Tom Watson while on the job, and that Tom even gave Andy some golf pointers.

Andrew was a craftsman who loved working in his woodworking shop. He was an antique collector and like collecting and restoring old clocks.

He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth; and many nieces and nephews.

Andrew’s cremains were interred in Newtown Village Cemetery. To leave an online condolence, visit honanfh.com.
