To the Editor:

I recently was informed of the removal of all the Connecticut statues of Christopher Columbus. We should not sit by and let this leaderless governor destroy our legacy, depriving our children of this proud identity that needs to be protected and promoted.

The removal of many important national monuments is an attempt to rewrite our history so that our children are indoctrinated and manipulated by social media to accept and believe a new set of distorted values that the current Pop Culture promotes.

These conspiratorial forces will eventually target religious institutions. Statues of the Blessed Mother have already been defaced and partially destroyed. Now we are powerless. We sit home and watch these incredible acts of anarchy. We all believe we are safe in Newtown. If you believe this, drive/walk around and watch future demonstrations in the center of town. While these organized outsiders have the right to demonstrate, why should they have permission to return to disrupt traffic and pedestrian crossings in Newtown?

Our freedoms are in danger because there are hidden anarchist groups within these that are operating to shut down our free speech. They are orchestrating the removal of our historic statues to achieve their ulterior motives. They will not stop until we are forced to listen, to bow and not question their actions and their eventual demands.

Now is the time to express your outrage over the decisions to wipe out our Italian-American history and the many significant contributions made by our immigrant descendants who were discriminated against but still pursued their dreams. It was their creativity and hard work that built the infrastructures in New York City and other cities in New England.

I ask that you write the Governor and the politicians in Hartford reminding them that their failure to defend and protect the symbol of Italian contributions will soon resurrect the sentiment of “Connecticut’s Italian Silent Minority,” that it will respond legally and in the future when they come to elect new representatives.
