Soccer, Basketball, And Baseball Camps Led By NHS Coaches

Summer sports camps are getting started. Some are led by Newtown High School coaches as follows:

Girls' Soccer: The Nighthawk Girls' Soccer Youth Camp for ages 9-12, is run by NHS Coach Marc Kenney, Monday, June 28 through Thursday, July 1, from 9 am to noon. Camp is held at the NHS back fields. Register through newtown-ct.gov/parks-recreation.

Basketball: The Murphy Basketball Camp is back at NYA Sports & Fitness for sessions this summer, July 5-9; 12-16; and 19-23. Camp is offered for boys entering grades 4-8 and girls entering grades 4-9. Cost for each session is $235 for Newtown residents/$255 for out of town residents. The staff includes current high school coaches as well as high school and college basketball players. There will be ball-handing, shooting, and defensive drills, daily competitions, league games/tournaments, and awards. For more information or to register visit www.murphybasketballcamp.com.

Baseball: The Newtown High School Nighthawks Elite Baseball Summer Camp offers several sessions throughout the summer.This program is geared towards players 6-13, and offers comprehensive baseball instruction of all aspects of the game. Players will receive an intense workout and will learn the fundamentals of hitting, fielding, throwing, and base running. Players will also take part in instructional and live games each day. Players will develop a positive mental attitude, with the goal to gain self confidence, work ethic, and discipline. The camp is run by Newtown High School coaches. Players will be broken out into age groups.Sessions will take place at Newtown High School, Monday through Friday, from 9 am to noon, during the months of July and August.
