McKinney Says He’ll Run Again

State Senator John McKinney (R-Fairfield) announced his intentions to seek reelection to a second term in office on the historic green in front of the Old Town Hall in Fairfield Monday.

Sen McKinney represents the 28th District, which includes Newtown, Easton, Monroe, and Fairfield.

Joining him at his announcement were his wife, Megen, their two children Matthew and Graysen, his mother Lucie McKinney, numerous close friends, and state and local political leaders.

The senator pointed to his two-year record of accomplishments: controlling the growth of state spending, lowering taxes, paying down the state debt, protecting the environment, preserving open space, and working for education.

Sen McKinney is currently the ranking member of the Connecticut General Assembly’s Environment Committee. He also serves on the Finance, Revenue, and Bonding Committee and the Transportation Committee. In a press release, Mr McKinney points out that, since being elected in 1998, he has voted for over $330 million in new tax cuts and tax credits that have returned money to the citizens of Connecticut, including the property tax, gas tax, sales tax, inheritance tax, and gift tax.

Formerly a lawyer with the law firm of Cummings & Lockwood, he now owns and manages a small business. Sen McKinney, 36, earned a BA from Yale University in 1986 and his JD from the University of Connecticut with honors in 1994.

He and his wife are expecting their third child later this summer.
