11U Hawks Compete In District Bracket And Prepare For States

11U Hawks Blue baseball team competed in district playoffs last week. The Hawks placed third in the pool play advancing them to the double elimination bracket.

The Hawks took the lead in the eighth inning en route to a 9-7 win over the West Hartford Wolves in the first game. Zach Milkovic doubled on a 1-0 count scoring two runs to break a 7-7 tie. Dalton Albert was on the mound for the bottom of the eighth, striking out two batters and scooping a ground ball and throwing to first baseman James Gulalo for the final out to end the game. Shea Platt, Milkovic, Bryce Pacuk, and Antonio Puebla all contributed on the mound. Pacuk and Noah Blair contributed with four and three hits, respectively. Charlie Magnano, Milkovic, Dalton Albert, Puebla, Platt, and Gulalo all had hits. Defense was strong with plays by Platt, Gulalo, Puebla, Milkovic, Shane Rekos, and Magnano.

In the second game, the Wolcott Eagles defeated the Hawks 12-2. Albert started on the mound and Milkovic and Leonard entered the game from the bullpen. Puebla and Milkovic each managed one hit.

The Hawks edged West Hartford 6-5 in extra innings thanks to a walk-off walk by Albert. Platt started on the hill and Milkovic and Albert both entered from the bullpen and helped on the mound. Milkovic led the offense with three hits. Blair, Christian Nault, Magnano, Albert, and Pacuk all had hits. The defense featured excellent plays by Milkovic, Puebla, Luke Laufer, Pacuk, Blair, Gulalo, Platt, Leonard, and catcher Nault.

In the final game Hawks met Wolcott again; the Eagles won 16-6. Platt, Albert and Milkovic all made appearances on the mound. Blair, Magnano, Milkovic, Albert, Pacuk, Puebla, Platt, and Leonard combined for 11 hits. The Hawks fought hard during district play and placed second. Newtown and Wolcott both move on to states next week for the chance to compete in the Regional tournament.
