Janet Johnson

Janet (Ruth) Johnson of Goose Creek, S.C., died on June 27 at the age of 74. Born in St Louis on May 21, 1929, she was the daughter of Anton H. and Edna Hanisch Ruth. She graduated from Washington University in St Louis with a degree in English literature.

Her beloved husband, Lake Harwood Johnson, died in 1988. He was in the submarine service in World War II. They met while working at Washington University, and later worked in the labs of Nobel Prize winners at Vanderbilt and Stanford Universities. They lived at various times in Newtown; Houston, Tex.; Cary, N.C.; and Ocala, Fla. Janet moved to Goose Creek in 1995 to be near family. She was a member of St James United Methodist Church of Goose Creek.

She leaves two loving sons, Harwood A. Johnson of Wallingford, Penn., and David A. “Tony” Johnson of Summerville, S.C.; three grandchildren, Nathan, Hannah, and Eli Johnson, a daughter-in-law, Tracy Johnson of Wallingford, Penn.; and a sister, June Wise of Broken Arrow, Okla.

A memorial service at St James United Methodist Church in Goose Creek will be held in late July. Arrangements are by Tri-County Cremation Center, 11000 Dorchester Road, Summerville, S.C.
