Municipal Art Gallery, Showcase Closed Until Further Notice
Although Newtown Municipal Center reopened to the public on Wednesday, July 1, the Newtown Municipal Art Gallery will not be accepting shows until further notice.
The gallery’s shows are hosted and curated by Newtown Cultural Arts Commission (NCAC).
First Selectman Dan Rosenthal has directed that the current show be taken down and that no new shows will be hung for the foreseeable future. That is so that visitors to the municipal center are not tempted to linger in the hallways while the coronavirus remains a health concern in the state.
The Municipal Center Showcase will be handled in the same way. In both cases, exhibits will return when is deemed safe for them to do so.
NCAC Chair Laura Lerman said the cultural commission is “disappointed, as we know that all exhibitors are.
“As soon as we are told that exhibits can start again, we will figure out our next exhibit,” she added.
