Kyle Packer, a 2011 Newtown High School graduate and the son of Eileen and Howard Packer of Newtown, has received an appointment to the United States Naval Academy, Annapolis, Md. Kyle was nominated by Senator Richard Blumenthal and Congressman Christopher Murphy. Having been appointed as a midshipman in the United States Navy, Kyle took his oath of office during an Induction Day ceremony for the Class of 2016, on June 28. Last year Kyle attended Virginia Tech College of Engineering and was a member of the Corps of Cadets, Navy ROTC. He achieved Dean’s List with Distinction standing. He received a ROTC Award of Merit Citation for demonstrating outstanding abilities as a cadet in the Naval ROTC.  Upon completion of his studies at the Naval Academy, Kyle will be commissioned as an officer in the United States Navy.

Kelly A. Tenney of Sandy Hook earned a bachelor of science degree in nursing during a commencement ceremony for Endicott College, Beverly, Mass., in May.

Jennifer Leah Samson of Newtown graduated from Arcadia University, Philadelphia, in May, with a concentration in international studies and political science.

Newtown resident Alexandra Cernick was named to the Dean’s List for Fairleigh Dickinson University’s College at Florham, Madison, N.J.

Benjamin Martinez of Sandy Hook graduated from Marquette University in Milwaukee, Wis., Benjamin earned a bachelor of arts degree in corporate communication.

Daniel Rahmlow, a Sandy Hook resident, graduated from Marist College, Poughkeepsie, N.Y., with a major in business administration and a concentration in marketing.

Also at Marist College, Lauren Berko and Danielle Villa, both of  Sandy Hook, have been named to the Dean’s List for the spring  semester.

Newtown resident Emily Loose was among more than 1,900 students from Wake Forest University, Winston Salem, N.C., who made the spring  Dean’s List at the university.

Genevieve Marie Gatan Santayana of Sandy Hook graduated from the University of the Sciences, Philadelphia, during a commencement ceremony on Wednesday, May 23.

The following local residents were among those named to the Roger Williams University, Bristol, R.I., Dean’s List for the spring semester: Alyssa Buda, a international relations major and resident of Sandy Hook; Rachel Fatse, a psychology major and resident of Sandy Hook; Nicole Haylon, a creative writing major and resident of Newtown; and Shannon Seaman, a creative writing major and resident of Newtown. Full-time students who complete 12 or more credits per semester and earn a grade point average of 3.4 or higher are placed on the Dean’s List at the university.

Sandy Hook resident Adam Alexander Horvath and Newtown resident Charlotte Adeline Manos recently graduated from Stonehill College, Easton, Mass.

Austin Hubbert of Newtown and Emma Iannini of Sandy Hook were named on the spring term  Deans’ List at Choate Rosemary Hall, Wallingford.

Francis Afriyie and Valerie Szabo, both of Sandy Hook, graduated from Loomis Chaffee, a college preparatory school in Windsor. Francis was named Outstanding Participant 2012 for the National Achievement Program. Francis was a junior prefect, residential assistant, and played the trumpet in the school’s jazz band. Francis was also a member of the boys varsity soccer team, the boys varsity track and field team, and participated in AP weightlifting. Francis plans to attend Columbia University. Valerie was awarded the Morris H. Brown Senior Theater Arts Prize, and was a member of the Habitat for Humanity club, Dance Revue, and Dance Company. She was captain of the hip hop team  at the school and plans to attend the University of St Andrews in Scotland.

Kristen Carino and Nicole Grillo of Sandy Hook, and Emily Floros, Stephanie Mitchel, and Anthony Vacaro of Newtown were named to the Dean’s List for the spring  semester at the University of Delaware, Newark. To meet eligibility requirements for the university’s Dean’s List, a student must be enrolled full-time and earn a grade point average of 3.33 or above on a 4.0 scale for the semester.

Ashley Braun of Newtown, Hillary Buzaid of Newtown, and Brian Grimes of Sandy Hook were named to Loyola University, Baltimore, Md., Dean’s List for its spring semester. At the university a student must have a grade point average of at least 3.5 with a minimum of 15 credits to be named on the Dean’s List.

Sarah Zuvanich of Sandy Hook was named on the Dean’s List for the spring semester at SUNY Oneonta. To qualify for the Dean’s List at the college, undergraduate students must earn a grade point average of 3.5 or higher while carrying a course load of 12 semester hours or more.

The following students have been named to the Dean’s List at the University of New Hampshire, Durham, for the spring semester: Gretchen Carey of Newtown earned High Honors; Samantha Dinnan of Newtown earned High Honors; Thomas Dolzall of Newtown earned Highest Honors; Alexander Neufeld of Newtown earned Honors; Allison Rambone of Newtown earned Honors; Daniel Smith of Newtown earned Honors; Cody Fischer of Sandy Hook earned High Honors; and Megan Gibbons of Sandy Hook earned Highest Honors.
