James “Jimmy,” “Jimbo” Dean McHatten, 53, of Sandy Hook, died June 28. He was born June 13, 1961, in Danbury.

Mr McHatten was a graduate of Newtown High School and attended Southern University.

An avid sportsman who enjoyed both playing and watching sports, he was a superfan of his beloved Red Sox, Lakers, and Vikings.

He was a residential painter and roofer for a local Newtown business.

Mr McHatten was a good friend to many and was known as one of the funniest guys anyone knew. Many of his friends had commented, “Jimmy would give you the shirt off his back,” with a gifted smile, and a “heart of gold.”

He leaves behind his loving and caring mother, Barbara “Cookie” Simon of Sandy Hook; his sister Jeanne Tillinghast of Southbury; and a niece and a nephew dear to his heart. Many members of the Capponi, McLean, Simon, and Tillinghast families will also remember Mr McHatten.

Family and friends are invited to a memorial service of his life, Sunday,  July 13, at Sacred Heart Church, 910 Main Street South, Southbury. The family will receive friends from 12:30 to 1:30 pm, with a prayer service to follow.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to a charity of choice.

Arrangements by Carpino Funeral Home, Southbury.
