Nicholas Francis Gosselin, 29, of Sandy Hook, earned his last license - his angel wings, on July 2, 2026.

Nicholas was born in Danbury Hospital to David and Catherine Gosselin on November 16, 1996. Nicholas’ love for flying started at an early age. Nicholas would build airplane dashboards, including all the gauges and levers, out of cardboard boxes. At age 11, he was flying flight simulators on his computer. For his thirteenth birthday, he was given a discovery flight at Oxford Airport, where he started taking flying lessons and later had a part time job working in the hangars.

After graduating from Newtown High School, he attended Bridgewater State University in Massachusetts to obtain a Bachelor’s Degree in Aviation Science. Nicholas was a go-getter. After his first year of college, he still had not acquired his private pilot license due to a lack of instructors. He switched his major to airport management, earned all of his licenses on his own at New Bedford Airport, had a part time job at Boston Logan Airport, and still made the Dean’s list every semester. He was a member of the BSU Flying Bears Precision Flight Team and the Alph Eta Rho Aviation Fraternity.

He worked every summer in King Salmon, Alaska for PenAir, marshalling aircraft, loading, unloading, and refueling the planes. He spent much of his free time exploring and falling in love with Alaska as he hiked, biked, and fished his way across the state. After college his first job was towing banners and bringing skydivers on a one-way ride at Marston Mills, Cape Cod. When the season ended, he took a job with Skydive the Gulf in Alabama, which turned into a job on St. Thomas – US Virgin Islands. He then moved to Alaska to fly for Grant Aviation in Anchorage where he spent the next five years as a bush pilot, servicing all the villages by transporting passengers, food, medicine, and supplies.

During his vacations he acquired his seaplane and multi-engine ratings. He also traveled to Costa Rica where he learned to surf and scuba dive; but his first passion was always flying.

He spent the last two years of his life in Papua, Indonesia, working as a bush pilot for Associated Mission Aviation. After accumulating thousands of flight hours, he earned the title of Captain. A title of which he was incredibly proud and grateful.

Nicholas is survived by his parents, David and Catherine (Eick) Gosselin, of Sandy Hook; his beloved brother Matthew Gosselin of Sandy Hook and his fiancée, Hope Mercugliano of Durham; his grandmother, Lorraine Gosselin of Trumbull; his beloved Nana Karen and Papa Andy Andrews of Florida;; his aunt Martha Hyland (Steve) of Trumbull; his aunt Karen Gosselin of West Haven; his uncle Michael Gosselin of East Haven; his Aunt Angela Gagliardi (Pat) of Florida, his Aunt Kristina Tenney of Virginia; and his beloved cousins: Christopher, Julie (Jack), Eva, Anna, Cameron, Jennifer, Eric, and Kylie.

The calling hours will be at Saint Rose Church, 46 Church Hill Road in Newtown, Friday, July 10, from 4 to 7 pm. A Mass of Christian burial will be held at St. Rose Church, Saturday, July 11, at 10 am. Internment will be at St. Rose Cemetery in Sandy Hook, CT.

Nicholas lived a life of serving others unconditionally. We believe in “paying it forward” by assisting the next group of pilots. In lieu of flowers, the Gosselin family are hoping to establish a memorial scholarship in Nick’s name at Bridgewater State University, Bridgewater, MA. We are working with BSU and will notify everyone as soon as this is set up.
