Catherine Lee Blomberg

Catherine Lee Blomberg, 89, a resident of Newtown for more than 50 years, retired mechanical and CAD/CAM draftsman, skilled watercolorist, avid reader, and enthusiastic traveler, died peacefully July 4 at The Kent Residence in Kent. She was born into a coal mining family in Olyphant, Penn., November 26, 1924, the daughter of Michael and Dora Sawayda Dyki.

She attended schools in Pennsylvania and trained as a draftsman in Connecticut. 

Mrs Blomberg, wife of Newtown contractor the late Richard J. Blomberg, was employed by the General Electric Company in Bridgeport and later by Rapid Electric Company in Brookfield, and Unimation, Inc in Danbury, where she worked with robotics and automated systems. She also prepared architectural elevations for a local firm and worked for more than ten years at the Newtown T.J. Maxx, in the changing room.

She was an active member of the Society of Creative Arts in Newtown (SCAN), League of Women Voters, Republican Town Committee, and various book clubs. In addition she was a member of the Danbury Ski Club for many years.

She loved traveling through the mountains and lakes regions of New England, with a special affinity for the White Mountains of New Hampshire and the remote beauty of Rangeley, Maine, where she owned land.

A son, Richard M. Blomberg of Southbury; a daughter, Susan M. Waitt of Malta, Europe; a brother, William J. Dyki; a sister, Helen Kerecz; two grandchildren, Shane Blomberg and India Waitt; as well as several nieces and nephews survive Mrs Blomberg. 

A wake will take place at the Honan Funeral Home, 58 Main Street, Newtown, Wednesday, July 9, from 5 to 8 pm, followed by a service at the funeral home on Thursday, July 10, at 11 am. Burial will be at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, 1056 Daniels Farm Road, Trumbull.
