Warrant

State police report that New Britain police arrested Michael Ramchandani, 36, of Wolcott on charges and were holding him, after which they notified state police who held a warrant for Ramchandani's arrest.

State police then arrested Ramchandani on June 21, charging him with criminal impersonation, interfering with police, driving while under suspension, and reckless driving. The charges stem from a past incident on Interstate 84, state police said.

At his arraignment in Danbury Superior Court, Ramchandani pleaded not guilty to all charges. He is scheduled to return to court on July 7.

Drug/MV Charges

Police report they lodged several drug/motor vehicle charges against a Ridgefield man on the afternoon of June 21.

Police said they spotted a vehicle traveling fast and passing another vehicle in a no-passing zone on Mt Pleasant Road, near Blackman Road, at about 4:20 pm, so they stopped its driver to investigate.

Police report they charged motorist Dylan Declercq, 27, of Ridgefield with illegal passing, driving without a license, possession of narcotics, possession of a controlled substance, and illegal storage of narcotics.

Police said they released Declercq on $500 bail for a July 7 appearance in Danbury Superior Court on those charges.

Additionally, police learned that there was a pending arrest warrant against Declercq on a charge of failure to respond to an infraction in connection with past state police enforcement. Police released Declercq on $282 bail on that charge for a July 12 court appearance.

Dodgingtown Crash

A two-vehicle collision occurred on Dodgingtown Road about 1:54 pm on June 21, police said.

Motorist Katelyn Fischer, 26, of Huntington, N.Y., was driving a 2016 Dodge Caravan minivan westward on Dodgingtown Road, as motorist Elizabeth Dran, 61, of 48 Scudder Road, was driving a 2005 Subaru Legacy eastward there, police said. The Dodge then attempted to make a left turn to enter a driveway at 57 Dodgingtown Road, resulting in the two vehicles colliding, police said.

Dran received a minor injury, police said. Police said they gave Fischer a written warning for failure to grant the right of way.

BMW vs Ford

At the end of the Exit 9 off-ramp for eastbound Interstate 84 at about 4:11 pm on June 21, motorist Sardou Jeanpierre, 32, of Bridgeport, who was driving a 2013 BMW 528 auto, struck the rear end of a 2015 Ford F-150 pickup truck driven by James Robertson, 60, of 18 Hanover Road, state police said.

There were no injuries. Jeanpierre received an infraction for unsafe movement, state police said.

Road Shoulder

At about 1:49 pm on June 23, motorist John Declair, 39, of Highland, N.Y., who was driving a 2014 Subaru vehicle, was parked alongside the westbound shoulder of Interstate 84, east of Exit 11, when motorist Richard Gagnon, 72, of Woonsocket, R.I., who was driving a 2011 Subaru vehicle, also attempted to park there, but struck the rear end of Declair's vehicle, state police said.

There were no injuries. State police said they verbally warned Gagnon for failure to maintain the proper lane.

Sandy Hook Collision

Police said that while making a left turn from the Exit 11 off-ramp of Interstate 84 onto westbound Wasserman Way, motorist Oliver Arias, 40, of New Milford, who was driving a 2008 Ford Econoline van, struck the rear end of a 2008 Ford Ranger pickup truck driven by Derek Scoville, 42, of Southbury, which also was making a left turn from the ramp onto Wasserman Way at about 4:34 pm on June 23.

Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps transported Scoville to Danbury Hospital for an evaluation of pain, police said.

Police said they verbally warned Arias for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart.

Intersection Accident

A two-vehicle accident occurred at the intersection of Sugar Street and Elm Drive at about 5 pm on June 23.

Police said the collision involved motorist Christine Wittenauer, 47, of Monroe, who was driving a 2008 Honda Odyssey minivan, and motorist Sharon Kewly, 73, of 32 Key Rock Road, who was driving a 2003 Toyota Avalon sedan.

There were no injuries. Police said they verbally warned Wittenauer for a stop sign violation.

Motorcycle Crash

Police report that motorist Holly Piccirillo, 28, of 18 Sunnyview Terrace, was driving a 2012 Dodge Ram 1500 pickup truck eastward on Church Hill Road in Sandy Hook Center about 5:35 pm on June 23, as motorcyclist Steve Oliver 44, of 138 Underhill Road was riding a 2008 Harley-Davidson FLHX westward there.

The motorcyclist then attempted to turn left to enter the driveway at 100 Church Hill Road, resulting in the two vehicles colliding, police said.

Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps transported Oliver to Danbury Hospital to be checked for pain, police said. Oliver was verbally warned for failure to grant the right of way, police report.

Interstate Accident

A two-vehicle accident occurred about 6:27 am on June 24 on westbound Interstate 84, about 1,500 feet east of Exit 11.

State police said motorist Katherine Marcon, 34, of Naugatuck, who was driving a 2007 Toyota Yaris, lost control of that vehicle and struck a 2012 Dodge vehicle driven by Brian Kobryn, 44, of Terryville, after which the Toyota struck some guardcabling on the highway median.

There were no injuries. State police said that Marcon failed to maintain the proper lane.

Electronic Weapon

At about 9:42 pm on June 24, police responded to a report of a fight involving an electronic stun gun in a parking lot near a carnival being held on the grounds at St Rose Church at 42 Church Hill Road.

Police report that no physical fight had occurred, but there had been a verbal dispute in which the display of weapons by two people occurred.

Police said they charged James Eugene Stiles, 18, of 10 Farm Field Ridge Road, with possession of a dangerous weapon and with second-degree breach of peace in connection with his alleged possession of an electronic stun gun. Police released Stiles on $500 bail for a July 7 court appearance.

Following his court appearance, Stiles produced documentation showing both of these charges were dismissed on August 4, 2016 under an agreement that granted Accelerated Rehabilitation, a Connecticut court diversionary program that allows first-time offenders to have their criminal charges dismissed.

Also, police charged a 14-year-old boy with second-degree breach of peace. The boy was released into his parents' custody for a July 11 juvenile court appearance, according to police. Because that boy is under age 18 police did not disclose his identity.

Intersection Collision

Police report that motorist Abigail Conroy, 17, of Trumbull, who was driving an Audi A-4 1.8-T auto, was traveling eastward on Sealand Drive and then stopped at a stop sign at its intersection with Hanover Road at about 9:36 am on June 25, as motorist Jennifer Gattie, 41, of Bridgewater was driving a 2016 Land Rover Discovery SUV southward on Hanover Road.

The Audi then pulled onto Hanover Road, resulting in the two vehicles colliding, police said.

Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps went to the accident and checked Conroy and also a passenger in the Land Rover at the scene, both of whom it released there, police said. Newtown Hook & Ladder firefighters responded to the accident.

Conroy received a written warning for failure to grant the right of way at a stop sign, police said.

Minivan Vs Flagpole

Police report that at about 11:18 am on June 25, motorist Michael Grossbach, 37, of Putnam Valley, N.Y., was driving a 2015 Toyota Sienna minivan carrying two passengers southward on Main Street and approaching its flagpole intersection with West Street and Church Hill Road.

Grossbach pulled over to the side of the road, and then reentered the road, after which he was distracted by traffic flow in the area and inadvertently drove directly into the 100-foot-tall flagpole, police said.

There were no injuries. The minivan was towed away due to vehicle damage. Hook & Ladder volunteer firefighters responded to the accident. Police said they issued Grossbach a written warning for failure to drive to the right.

Car Wash DUI

Police said they were dispatched to Newtown Car Wash at 1 Simm Lane, at about 11:30 am, on June 25 concerning the presence of a possibly intoxicated motorist.

After investigating, police charged motorist Nanci Kalas, 63, of 6 Avalon Way, with driving under the influence and with driving with a suspended license.

After processing, police released Kalas on $500 bail for a July 13 court appearance.

Two Charges

Police said that at about 6:50 pm on June 26, they stopped a 2006 Mitsubishi Galant driven by Ryan Ortiz, 29, of Shelton on Toddy Hill Road, near Turnberry Lane, to investigate.

Police report they charged Ortiz with driving an unregistered vehicle and with driving with a suspended license.

After processing, police released Ortiz on $250 bail for a July 12 court appearance.

A two-SUV head-on collision on Berkshire Road (Route 34), near its intersection with Sherman Street, caused extensive travel delays during the morning rush on June 27. Police said motorist Durcelei Damasceno, 58, of Shelton, was driving a 2013 Toyota RAV-4 (shown here) westward on Berkshire Road, as motorist Scott Carroll, 43, of Derby, was driving a 1998 Jeep Cherokee eastward there. The Toyota crossed the street's center line and then collided with the Jeep, police said. Both drivers were transported by the Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps to Danbury Hospital for suspected minor injuries, police said. Sandy Hook firefighters responded to the accident.
