Struck Tree
Newtown Police report Vicaris Arias-Gabriel, 40, of Danbury, operating a 2011 Lexus RX 350, was traveling eastbound on Berkshire Road at 2:52 pm June 19. While negotiating a right-hand curve in the roadway, the vehicle crossed the eastbound shoulder before striking a tree.
No injuries were reported. The vehicle was towed.
Arias-Gabriel was issued a written warning for making a restricted turn.
Hit Deer
Newtown Police report Katelyn Johnston, 36, of Monroe, operating a 2015 Dodge Dart, was traveling westbound on Berkshire Road at 8:34 am June 22. A deer entered the roadway and was struck by Johnston's vehicle.
Johnston was not injured. The car was not towed. The deer was killed.
No enforcement action was taken.
Both Drivers Cited In Incident
Newtown Police report Marlena Rivera-Suarez, 57, of Danbury, operating a 2007 Honda Civic, was traveling northbound on Hattertown Road at 4:02 pm June 25. Elizangela Xavier, 35, of Danbury, operating a 2010 Honda Civic, was traveling ahead and stopping for an approaching stop sign.
No injuries were reported. Neither vehicle was towed.
Rivera-Suarez was issued an infraction for following too close. Xavier was issued an infraction for operation of a motor vehicle without a license.
Both Vehicles Towed
Newtown Police report Alexander Sabato, 34, of Newtown, operating a 2026 Mazda CX-50, was traveling northbound on South Main Street at 5:28 pm June 25. Nyle Blanck, 35, of Milford, operating a 2024 Volkswagen GTI, was traveling southbound on South Main Street. Sabato attempted to make a left hand turn and struck Blanck's vehicle.
Sabato reported a minor injury but was not transported. Both vehicles were towed.
Sabato was issued a verbal warning for failure to grant right of way at an intersection.
Trespassing Charge
Newtown Police report that on June 30, Jolon Lopez, 18, of Danbury, turned himself in to police on an active warrant for his arrest. Lopez was charged with second-degree criminal trespass and interfering with an officer/resisting arrest.
He was released on a promise to appear with a court date of July 14 in Danbury Superior Court.
Collision In Parking Lot
Newtown Police report Londen Hersh, 27, of Mt Kisco, N.Y., operating a 2014 Ford Mustang, was stopped at a red light waiting to leave the parking lot at 228 South Main Street at 12:35 pm July 1. Anand Tirumani, 60, of Monroe, operating a 2023 Tesla Model 3, rear-ended Hersh's vehicle.
No injuries were reported. Neither vehicle was towed.
No enforcement action was taken since the incident occurred on private property.
Avoided Animal, Struck Tree
Newtown Police report Jerry Bazile, 40, of Naugatuck, operating a 2012 Mitsubishi Lancer, was traveling southbound on Currituck Road at 1:30 pm July 1. An animal ran out into the roadway, causing Bazile to swerve and strike a dead tree.
No injuries were reported. The vehicle was towed.
Bazile was issued a verbal warning for failure to maintain a lane, and operating an unregistered motor vehicle.
Backed Into Tree
Newtown Police report Albert Dancho, 65, of Monroe, operating a 2025 Ford Econoline, was backing up from a driveway on Washbrook Road at 3:21 pm July 1. Dancho backed into a tree.
No injuries were reported. The vehicle was not towed.
No enforcement action was taken since the incident occurred on private property.
Rear-Ended On Wasserman Way
Newtown Police report Bryan Pluchino, 55, of Shelton, operating a 2014 Honda CR-V, was traveling eastbound on Wasserman Way at 3:27 pm July 1. He was traveling behind a 2016 GMC Yukon operated by Breanne Curtis, 46, of Monroe. Curtis came to a stop at the intersection with Berkshire Road for a red light. Pluchino was unable to stop in time and rear-ended Curtis' vehicle.
No injuries were reported. Neither vehicle was towed.
Pluchino was issued a written warning for traveling an unreasonable distance apart.
Backed Into Car
Newtown Police report Jodi Godfrey, 62, of Sandy Hook, operating a 2014 Honda Pilot, was backing out of a parking spot in a lot on Church Hill Road at 4:01 pm July 1. Keven Barrett, 64, of Sandy Hook, operating a 2013 Toyota Tacoma, was driving in the same lot. Godfrey backed into Barrett's vehicle.
No injuries were reported. Neither vehicle was towed.
No enforcement action was taken since the incident occurred on private property.
Collision In Intersection
Newtown Police report Richard Bayuk, 62, of Sandy Hook, operating a 2019 Jeep Grand Cherokee, was traveling westbound on Berkshire Road at 4:40 pm July 1. Melinda Soto, 38, of Stratford, operating a 2007 Toyota Scion, was stopped at the stop sign at the intersection of Bradley Lane and Berkshire Road. Bayuk turned onto Bradley Lane and struck Soto’s vehicle.
No injuries were reported. Neither vehicle was towed.
Bayuk was issued an infraction for failure to drive in the proper lane.
Left Driveway, Hit Car
Newtown Police report Patricia McQuail, 68, of Newtown, operating a 2020 Land Rover Range Rover, was exiting a driveway on South Main Street at 5:39 pm July 2. Melissa Garcia, 23, of Danbury, operating a 2025 Honda HR-V, was traveling on South Main Street. McQuail stuck Garcia's vehicle.
No injuries were reported. Neither vehicle was towed.
No enforcement action was mentioned in the report.
Hit Car While Parking
Newtown Police report Bruno Telesca, 52, of Sandy Hook, operating a 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee, was entering a parking spot in the lot of 5 Queen Street at 3:10 pm July 3. A 2023 Kia Telluride operated by Kimberley Hettenbach, 45, of Newtown, was parked in an adjacent spot. Telesca struck Hettenbach's vehicle.
No injuries were reported. Neither vehicle was towed.
No enforcement action was taken since the incident occurred on private property.
Tree Hit Car
Newtown Police report John Patino-Cano, 71, of Bridgeport, was traveling southbound on Toddy Hill during a torrential downpour at 8:28 pm July 4. A tree became uprooted and fell on top of Patino-Cano's vehicle.
No injuries were reported. The vehicle was towed.

Struck Fallen Tree
Newtown Police report Sergio Mesquita, 50, of Bethel, operating a 2023 Rav4, was traveling westbound on Church Hill Road during heavy rain and high winds at 8:58 pm July 4. Mesquita struck a tree that had fallen into the westbound lane of travel.
No injuries were reported. The vehicle was towed.
No enforcement action.
Rear-Ended On High Bridge Road
Newtown Police report Andrew Immel, 23, of Stoneham, Mass., operating a 2020 Jeep Wrangler, was traveling eastbound on High Bridge Road at 1:20 pm July 5. He was traveling behind a 2025 Acura Integra operated by Lorraine Gendell, 53, of Newtown. Gendell reduced speed and stopped to turn left onto New Lebbon Road, and Immel rear-ended her vehicle.
No injuries were reported. Neither vehicle was towed.
Immel was issued a written warning for following too close.
