Connecticut artist Jacqueline Jones will demonstrate “Oil Painting of a Seascape” at the  Wednesday July 23, meeting of SCAN, the Society of Creative Arts in Newtown, at 1:30 pm, in the lower level of the Newtown Meeting House, 33 Main Street.

The demonstration is open to the public and admission is free.

Ms Jones’s paintings summon ephemeral moments and emotions that are conceived in nature. Her rich color palette and lively brushwork capture the scents and sounds of the land: the rushing streams, rolling surf, nesting birds, rustling grasses, and salted winds of coastal New England. While she works primarily from direct observation and en plein air, she can also be found in her studio transforming her studies into larger-scale paintings.

“Whatever the subject matter, I’m energized by the way light reveals essence and form,” said Ms Jones.

As a child, she studied with local artist Joseph Gionfriddo of Gilead. A former student of Guy Wiggins and James Goodwin McManus, Mr Gionfriddo instilled in her a love of traditional oil painting.

Ms Jones earned a bachelor of fine arts degree in painting from the Lyme Academy College of Fine Art, as well as an associate’s degree in illustration from the Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale. She exhibits year round and participates in numerous shows along the East Coast, and has been honored in many of these exhibitions.
