Lady Nighthawks

The Lady Nighthawks Basketball Camp will take place at Newtown High School, Monday through Thursday, August 15-18, from 9 am to noon. Camp is for girls ages 8 to 14. Cost is $185.

This camp stresses individual instruction with emphasis on fundamentals and game experience, and will focus on proper shooting, ball handling, passing and catching, rebounding, defense, and basketball knowledge. Daily schedule will include: stretching, stations, drills, contests, games, and strategies.

Coaching Staff: Director Jeremy O’Connell, in his 11th year as head coach of the Newtown High girls. O’Connell has been coaching high school girls’ basketball for the past 26 years. The camp staff will include assistant coaches and players from the NHS program.

What to bring: Campers should wear high top basketball sneakers, socks, T-shirt and shorts, and bring a water bottle. It is requested that jewelry not be worn.

Boys’ Basketball

Nighthawks Boys’ Basketball Camp is offered at Newtown High, Monday through Friday, August 1-5. Ages 8-13. Cost is $200.

Tim Tallcouch, head varsity coach at NHS, along with his players, will lead campers through an active week of basketball. Combining drills, competitions, and games, the camp will instruct participants on how to develop as a player. Children will receive a T-shirt and a chance to earn prizes.

Please pack a small lunch and water.

Girls’ Volleyball

Tom Czaplinski, coach of the NHS girls’ volleyball team, offers camps for middle school players, incoming freshmen, junior varsity, and varsity players.

High school camp is for ages 13-17 of all abilities, Monday through Thursday, July 25-28, 5:30-7:30 pm, at NHS. Cost is $200. Activity #409627 A

The middle school camp, Monday through Thursday, August 8-11, from 5 to 6:30 pm, at NHS, is for players of all levels, grades 5-8. Cost is $150. Activity #409620 A

Incoming freshmen camp for ages 13-15 is Monday through Thursday, August 15-18, from 5 to 7 pm, at NYA Sports & Fitness, 4 Primrose Street. Cost is $175. Activity #409619 A
