Sandy Hook Volunteer Fire & Rescue, Newtown Police, and two crews from Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps all responded to the area of 186 Berkshire Road around 2:50 pm Sunday, July 12, after a Ford Explorer went off the road and struck a tree. The vehicle had been traveling west on the state road when it went off the northern shoulder approximately 550 feet northwest of Berkshire’s intersection with Homer Clark Road. Seven passengers of varying ages were in the vehicle at the time of the incident, and all were transported to a hospital for treatment of injuries. The collision caused delays in both directions for nearly 45 minutes while first responders were on the scene. Additional information was not available when this week’s Newtown Bee went to press. —Bee Photo, Hicks
