“BOE Approves Calendar Change, Discusses Returning To School,” by Eliza Hallabeck, published Friday, July 10. Superintendent of Schools Dr Lorrie Rodrigue updated Board of Education members on July 7 about ongoing efforts by the Board of Education’s Re-Entry Subcommittee to plan and research reopening Newtown schools. She also presented a revision to the 2020-21 school calendar that has students starting school on September 2, which is later than originally planned, but still within state guidelines. “Ordinance Rules, New PD Headquarters, And M-ATV Addressed By Police Commission,” by Shannon Hicks, published Monday, July 13. Newtown Action Alliance members and other residents addressed the Board of Police Commissioners on July 7, hinting at changes they would like to see made to local ordinances. While Chairman Joel Faxon said their attendance was appreciated, he also explained that their efforts should be directed elsewhere if action is to be taken.
