Once A Newtowner, Always A Newtowner

To the Editor,

As both residents of Newtown and directors of Newtown Parks and Recreation, we have had the privilege of witnessing countless acts of selflessness first hand. It’s incredible to see all that goes on behind the scenes on the behalf of so many.

Mr Howard Lasher and his lovely wife, Jeanette, come immediately to mind. Although they recently relocated permanently to their home in Florida, their hearts remain in Newtown (as does their beautiful 9/11 American flag memorial painted trees that they commissioned in honor of many of Mr Lasher’s fallen friends of 9/11).

Not only have the Lashers donated much of their own funds to Parks and Recreation’s camp scholarship, Mr Lasher has gotten many friends from his Wall Street days on board as well.

His efforts have directly impacted the lives of hundreds of children in our community, and will continue to do so for years to come.

Howard attributes his inspiration to his childhood in New York City, where he was raised by his hero of a mother. Howard’s childhood was greatly enriched by others’ generosity.

Howard never forgot this. We will never forget Howard.

With sincere appreciation from all of us at Newtown Parks and Recreation and the many children we serve,

Amy Mangold, Director, Newtown Parks and Recreation

RoseAnn Reggiano, Assistant Director,

Newtown Parks and Recreation
