Tennis clinics for Newtown youngsters ages 5 to 16 will be conducted at Dickinson Park on Saturdays, August 11 and 18, by Rob Howard, the tennis pro at Club du Lac in Brookfield. The clinics, sponsored by the Newtown Tennis Association, will be from 10 to 11 am for players 5 to 7; 11 am to 12:30 pm for players 8 to 12; and 12:30 to 2 pm for players 13 to 16.

NTA volunteers will assist in the clinics and instruction will be followed by round robin play. If there is sufficient interest, more round robin competition will be set up during the week(s) following the clinics.

Also, draw sheets should be out soon for the Bertram Stroock Tournament and the Coopersmith Cup Junior Tournament. The finals for both tournaments will be played over the Labor Day weekend.

Play continues in the Berlingo round robin competitions in singles and doubles.

Also anticipated is this year’s New Haven Tournament and the upcoming U.S. Open, so there is lots of tennis to enjoy in the coming weeks.
