Roberts Receives Rotary Achievement Award
Newtown Rotary Club member Nelson (Skip) Roberts was presented with the J. Frank Miles Award by Scott Senete, club president, at the club meeting Monday night.
A new award, the J. Frank Miles Award was started by the Rotary in memory of a hard-working âbehind the scenesâ member who always came forward and completed the job he was handling.
Like the late Mr Miles, Skip Roberts always shows up at functions, projects, and events, ready to help. No matter how unappealing the chore, Mr Roberts will begin and finish the job, Mr Senete said in presenting the award.
In addition to all his work with the Rotary, Skip Roberts also has volunteered with the Dorothy Day soup kitchen in Danbury, the annual Labor Day parade in Newtown, and the Brookfield Rotaryâs bowling tournament. He has spent endless hours assembling water purifying units for the World Help Foundation. These units have been shipped overseas to provide safe drinking water to clinics and to native populations that previously only had contaminated, disease-ridden water available.
This year Skip Roberts also created a computer database for the Newtown Rotary.
Mr Roberts is ânever too busy to take up the most tedious task and follow it to fruition,â Rotarian Ed Osterman said. âWe all know how proud Frank [Miles] would be of his very dear friend. We of Newtown Rotary all are.â
