Girl Scouts Seeking Auction Items

STAMFORD — The Girl Scout Council of Southwestern Connecticut will be presenting an event called The Gala CampOut Dinner Dance in October that will raise funds to support program activities and training for the 9,000 girls and 3,000 volunteers in the Council’s 15-town and city jurisdiction, which includes Newtown.

Event organizers are seeking items to fill the silent auction portion of the fundraiser. Donations of goods and services from businesses and individuals are welcome. The Silent Auction Committee recently received a hand-woven Turkish Kilim donated by Amatulli & Sons of New Canaan, and handmade pillows donated by Girl Scout Board President Judy Frey. Members are seeking anything from works of art and kayaks to vacation retreats.

Anyone interested in making a contribution to support Girl Scouts is asked to call Den Randall at 203-656-4406. For information on October 25 dinner-dance, contact the Girl Scout Council of Southwestern Connecticut, which is located in Wilton, call 203-762-5557. To make Girl Scouting happen in the Girl Scout Council of Southwestern Connecticut, $210 is needed to support each girl. The council needs to provide the programs, the leadership, and the materials that will help each girl set her own goals, achieve her dreams, and grow strong in mind, body and spirit. Among its work, the Council supplies over 70 Girl Scout programs annually; provides and subsidizes program opportunities for girls; provides and subsidizes summer camps for girls; provides adult education services and leader training; provides financial assistance; and expands outreach efforts and life skills programs.

During the last year over 5,000 girls participated in council-wide events and collaborative programs at New Canaan Nature Center, Stamford Museum and Nature Center, and Boston Museum of Science. Over 5,000 girls participated in overnights, encampments, or day use in the four council-owned camps.
