ROXBURY — Hodge Library, at 4 North Street in Roxbury, will once again turn into a cozy pub where guests are welcome to eat, drink, and be merry, on Friday, August 9.

The event is free to attend. It will run from 6 to 9 pm, and this month will feature beer from Reverie Brewing in Newtown. Drinks (beer and wine) will be available for purchase, with proceeds benefitting the library. Small bites will be provided, but guests are also welcome to BYO dinner.

Games will be out on the lawn, and the Friends of the Library’s book store, The Next Chapter will, be open for browsing and book sales.

Hodge Library was home to Roxbury’s original public library. The stone structure was completed in 1937 and named for Albert Lafayette Hodge, father of Charles Watson Hodge, who died in 1936. Charles had bequeathed $15,000 to build a library and museum and another $15,000 to set up an endowment fund for the town library.

The 1,941-square-foot structure served Roxbury until 1994, when the 7,500 Minor Memorial Library — located a short distance to the south of the Hodge, at 23 South Street in Roxbury — opened, with shelving space for 40,000 items.

Call 860-350-2181 or visit minormemoriallibrary.org for information and directions.
