Weapons Incident

Police said that at about 9:46 pm on July 27, they responded to a Smoke Rise Ridge residence after receiving a report of a disturbance there. Eight police were dispatched.

An investigation determined that James Collier, 30, of Smoke Rise Ridge had fired one shot from a firearm into the ground outside of his home and then left the area, police said. Police did not specify the type of firearm involved in the incident. There were no injuries, police said.

Police said they located Collier in a vehicle on Wendover Road, where he was found to be in possession of a firearm and two other unspecified weapons.

Police said they charged Collier with disorderly conduct, illegal discharge of a firearm, and two counts of illegal possession of a weapon in a motor vehicle. Police did not specify what those two weapons were, other than to say that the weapons were not firearms.

Police held Collier on $50,000 bail for a July 30 arraignment at Danbury Superior Court. Collier pleaded not guilty to all four charges in court where he was represented by a public defender. Collier was then released on $5,000 bail for an August 20 court appearance.

Hawleyville Accident

Police report a two-vehicle accident at the intersection of Hawleyville Road and Old Hawleyville Road about 4:24 pm on July 23.

Motorist Nicole Gindraux, 19, of 15 Whitewood Road, who was driving a 2005 Saab 9-3 sedan northward on Hawleyville Road, stopped and was waiting to make a left turn onto Old Hawleyville Road, police said.

Northbound motorist Elizabeth Luzietti, 48, of 10 Daniels Hill Road, who was driving a 2006 Honda Pilot SUV, was slowing to a stop behind the Saab, but her foot slipped off the brake pedal and the Honda struck the Saab from behind, police said.

Police said Luzietti explained that she was unable to swerve around the Saab because there was a disabled vehicle parked on the right road shoulder of Hawleyville Road.

There were no injuries. Police said they issued Luzietti a written warning for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart.

Wallet Found

Police report that on July 27, a person found a brown and tan Coach-brand wallet on Brushy Hill Road, near its intersection with Cedar Circle. Police are holding the wallet for safekeeping. The owner may claim the wallet by contacting police at the police station, 3 Main Street, telephone 203-426-5841.

Buick Vs Mazda

At about 11:22 am on July 24, motorist William Noyce, 35, of 44 Hundred Acres Road was driving a 2012 Mazda station wagon northward on Toddy Hill Road, when he encountered a southbound tractor-trailer truck that was making a left turn onto eastbound Turnberry Lane, police report.

The Mazda then stopped in the northbound lane for the turning truck, after which the Mazda was struck from behind by a northbound 2003 Buick LeSabre sedan driven by Donna Austin, 68, of Whitehall, N.Y., police said.

There were no injuries. Police said they issued Austin a written warning for following too closely.

Hattertown Road

Motorist Christopher Glahn, 20, of Bethel was driving a 2002 Acura TL sedan westward near 55 Hattertown Road at about 8:58 pm on July 28, when the auto began to slide on wet pavement, police report.

The Acura then struck some curbing, after which it went off the road and came to rest against a tree, police said.

Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps members transported Glahn to Danbury Hospital for treatment of injuries, according to police. Glahn received a verbal warning for traveling too fast for conditions, police said.

I-84 Collision

State police report a two-vehicle collision on eastbound Interstate 84, west of Exit 10, at about 4 pm on July 27.

In that accident, a 1995 Cadillac sedan driven by Sean Muff, 44, of Bristol, changed travel lanes and struck a 2000 Volkswagen Passat driven by Heman Leiva, 39, of Salem, N.C., state police said.

There were no injuries. Enforcement information was not available.

Garner Lot

A two-vehicle accident occurred in a parking lot at Garner Correctional Institution, the state’s high-security prison at 50 Nunnawauk Road, at about 2 pm on July 23, state police said.

Edgar Morales, 39, of Naugatuck was driving a 2006 Ford F-250 truck, which is owned by the state Department of Correction, which collided with a 2009 Volkswagen Jetta driven by Paul Thomas, 60, of New Haven, state police said.

The left-front corners of both vehicles made contact with one another, state police said. There were no injuries. Enforcement information was not available.

Fencing

At about 8:23 am on July 29, motorist Robert Cronin, 46, of Danbury, who was driving a 2004 Toyota RAV-4 SUV southward on Pine Tree Hill Road, swerved to avoid striking an animal in the road, but in doing so he struck a fence at 48 Pine Tree Hill Road, police said.

The impact knocked down some fencing and damaged multiple curbside residential mailboxes, police said. Cronin was not injured. Police said they issued him a written warning for making a restricted turn.

South Main Street

About 5:30 pm on July 24, motorist Sawarot Borivong, 56, of Naugatuck, who was driving a 2007 Hyundai Tucson SUV northward on South Main Street, stopped and was waiting for traffic to pass in and out of a parking lot at 103 South Main Street, police said.

Northbound motorist Willard Smith, 41, of Monroe, who was driving a 2005 Dodge Ram pickup truck, attempted to stop, but skidded on the wet road and collided with the rear end of the Hyundai, police said.

There were no injuries. Police said they gave Smith an infraction for following too closely.

Wasserman Way

Police report that motorist Juan Carlos Hernandez, 31, of Bridgeport was spotted driving 52 miles per hour in a 30-mph zone on westbound Wasserman Way near Trades Lane at about 10 pm on July 29.

Police said they stopped Hernandez to investigate and charged him with traveling fast and with driving with a suspended license.

Police released Hernandez on $100 bail for an August 14 court appearance.

Ford Vs Mercedes

At about 5:24 pm on July 25, motorist Peggy McNamara, 50, of 1 Valley Field Road North was driving a 2008 Ford Explorer southward on Walnut Tree Hill Road and then stopped at a stop sign at that street’s intersection with Church Hill Road, police said. The Ford then waited to make a left turn onto eastbound Church Hill Road, police report.

At that time, motorist Chandra Penumakha, 38, of Danbury was driving a 2001 Mercedes-Benz 340 sedan westward on Church Hill Road, police said.

The Ford then attempted to make the left turn and the vehicles collided, police said. There were no injuries. Police said they issued McNamara a written warning for failure to grant the right of way.

Currituck Road

Police report that they stopped motorist Michael Noall, 48, of Trumbull near 105 Currituck Road for traveling fast at about 5:18 pm on July 31.

After investigating, police charged Noall with traveling unreasonably fast and with driving with a suspended license.

Police said they released Noall on $1,500 bail for an August 21 appearance in Danbury Superior Court.
