Babe Ruth Registration

Registration for Newtown Babe Ruth Fall Softball is now in progress. Play is open to players ages eight to 12 as of December 31, 2005. Go to http://www.newtownsoftball.org for further registration information and forms. Registration closes August 23. Play will begin within a few weeks later. Boys Premier Development Soccer

A development program for U10 and U11 boys, run by Soccer Extreme and Samba TTP and designed to focus on players primary skill set and expose teams to the tactical understanding of the game at the highest levels, will be conducting a 10-week program beginning on Tuesday, September 10, and running through November 14, at Treadwell Park in Newtown. Bowling Signups At Lore’s

Lore’s Lanes in New Milford will be holding signups for Junior Bowling on Saturday, August 19, from 11 am to 1 pm. The league is open to players ages 4 to 21 and bowling will commence on September 9 at 9:30 am. For further information, email bjm-fcyaba@comcast.net.

Junior Women Golf Tournament

The Newtown Junior Women’s Club will hold its fourth annual golf tournament on Monday, August 28, at Whitney Farms Golf Club in Monroe. Registration will be at 7:30 pm with a shotgun start at 9 am followed by a buffet lunch at 1:30 pm. Cost is $150 per golfer and includes 18 holes of golf (with cart), homemade continental breakfast, lunch, snacks and beverages on the course. There will be raffle gifts and tournament prizes, including low net, low gross, longest drive and closest to the pin. Hole-in-one prizes will be sponsored by Mercedes Benz of Danbury. The tournament is open to all golfers and the registration deadline is August 10. Sponsorship opportunities are also available, such as Guest ($225), Gift ($425), Beverage ($600), Executive ($750), Golf Shirt ($1,250), Luncheon ($1,500) and Tournament ($2,500). Most sponsorships include entries in the tournament while the top-level sponsorship includes eight players (golf and lunch), plaque presentation at luncheon, marketing of the business, recognition on tournament brochure cover, prominent signage (including large vinyl banner and tee signage), advertising headliner on all promotional materials, full page ad and recognition on cover of program book. All the proceeds from the tournament will help the Junior Women fund community projects and allowed for cash contributions to local organizations. Blue & Gold Golf Tournament

The Newtown Blue & Gold Booster Club will hold its annual golf tournament on Monday, September 18, at Richter Park in Danbury. It will be a best-ball tournament with a 10 am shotgun start. Cost is $175 and players will receive 18 holes of golf (with cart), continental breakfast, lunch at the turn, buffet dinner at Restaurant on the Green and prizes for first and second place, longest drive, closest to the pin. There will also be a $10,000 hole-in-one prize. Individuals and foursomes are welcome. Contact Dan Barrett at 270-1927 (home) or 770-0925 (cell) to sign up.

NHS Fall Sports Tryouts

Newtown High School fall sports tryouts are a month away and all players must be prepared. No one may tryout without a physical form and parent permission form (visit www.nighthawksports.com to download form and check out the tryout schedules). The physical is good for one year from the time that it was signed by the doctor while the permission form must be filled out and signed by a parent and the student for each new sports season. The pay to participate fee (football - $150; cheerleading - $50; cross country - $50; field hockey - $150; volleyball - $150; soccer - $150; and girls swimming - $150) will be collected once the final teams have been selected (all checks should be made out to Newtown  High School). Football tryouts will open on Monday, August 21. All other sports will open tryouts on Saturday, August 26.
