Nutmeg Festival In Ridgefield Turning 100

RIDGEFIELD — St Stephen’s Church will host its 100th Nutmeg Festival on Saturday, August 12, from 10 am to 4 pm, at the church campus, 351 Main Street.

One of Connecticut’s oldest church fairs, the Nutmeg Festival began in 1906 as an apron and cake sale on the rectory steps. It has grown into a country fair that offers something for everyone: games and amusements for children, a country grille, locally grown flowers and produce, fresh-baked goods, handcrafted items, artwork, antiques, jewelry, toys, furniture, a white elephant barn stacked with bargain items for the home, thousands of new and used books, a variety of musical entertainment, and a silent auction.

Admission is free.

Proceeds from the festival will benefit various charities. In addition, a raffle will be held, with all proceeds being donated to Hurricane Katrina relief in the community of Pass Christian, Miss. First prize will be a 42-inch Panasonic plasma widescreen television; second prize will be a pair of Windsor chairs, handcrafted especially for the Nutmeg Festival following a 250-year-old tradition; and third prize will be a Weber Genesis gas grill. Raffle tickets may be purchased at the festival.
