Occupation: I am branch manager of Newtown Savings Bank, the main office.

Family: I am married to Margaret, who is the best thing that ever happened to me. We have been married since 1996. Margaret has three children and now we have three grandchildren. I’m very happy to have a family that I didn’t have before.

Pets: We have two pets. We have one border collie called Patch, who we brought from England in 1995, and we have acquired a cat, Blue. He follows me around everywhere and sleeps on me.

How long have you lived in Newtown? Since November of 1995. That was the winter we had something like 100 inches of snow. Before that, I lived in Speen in the Chilton Hills of England.

What do you like to do in your free time? I’m a member of Newtown Rotary and am the assistant governor of Area Three in Rotary. I’m a member of the Labor Day Parade Committee, I’m on the development committee of Ashlar, and I’m on the board of Newtown Housing for the Elderly, which is Nunnawauk Meadows. I’m an avid fan of musicals, so whenever there’s one, I try to get in to see it.

Do you have a favorite musical? Guys and Dolls is probably my favorite. West Side Story is another one. I like Gershwin and Cole Porter.

Do you have a favorite author? I only read on vacation. It’s the only time I have time to read. When I do, I like books by Jack Higgins, Alister McClean, or John Grisham, that sort of thing.

Do you have a favorite travel destination? I think I would say Italy. I love Tuscany and the Amalfi Coast and Positano. It’s quite an interesting area. All of the towns are built on the side of the cliffs. It’s great countryside.

What is the best thing about Newtown? I’d have to say the people. Right from day one, the community deals with you in a very respectful way. It’s motivating to get the right kind of response in the service business. I’ve built a lot of friendships in Newtown since I’ve been here. I love it.

If you could spend a day with anyone, who would that be? One of my interests is World War II airplanes, particularly the Spitfire. I’d love to spend a day with Reginald Mitchell, who designed the Spitfire. It would be great to meet him, as my father worked on the original Spitfire designs. Anything to do with the Spitfire, I pick up; any kind of memorabilia or such, because of that connection with my father.

Do you have a personal philosophy? Basically, do unto others. Treat others in the way you would like to be treated.

What do you most cherish? The love of my wife is something I cherish very much. The second time around, you ask yourself, “Did I get it right?” so I very much cherish what I have with her. Also, good health. I get very frustrated if I’m not feeling well, so I appreciate good health.
