The Society of Creative Arts of Newtown will host an oil painting demonstration by Carol Arnold on Wednesday, August 14, at 7:30 pm. Her subject will be one of her children, who will be posing for her.

The program is open to the public, free of charge. It will be in the lower level of Newtown Meeting House, 31 Main Street (at the flagpole) in Newtown.

Ms Arnold was first inspired to become a painter when as a child she became fascinated by the plein air painters her family encountered on vacations in seaside Gloucester, Mass.. After graduating from Vesper George School of art in Boston, Ms Arnold spent several years working in the commercial art field before turning her attention fully to fine art painting.

She is currently a member of Richard Schmid and Nancy Guzik’s Putney Painters located in Putney, Vt.

Ms Arnold’s work, executed primarily from life, has been steadily winning recognition, including taking the First Honor award at the “Inspiring Figures Exhibition” at the Butler Institute of American Art in October 2010. She won an Honorable Mention at the Portrait Society of America’s Members only competition in December 2010, in April 2011 she was awarded a Certificate of Excellence at the Portrait Society of America’s International Portrait Competition and another Certificate of Excellence award in May 2012.

Reservations are not needed for SCAN programs, but additional information is always available from Ruth Newquist, at 203-426-6654.
