Moving Violations

Police report that after they saw motorist Elvis Espinal, 26, of Danbury driving a vehicle on Mt Pleasant Rd with an expired license plate registration sticker at about 7 pm July 29, they stopped Espinal to investigate.

Police arrested Espinal on charges of driving an unregistered motor vehicle and driving while under suspension. After processing his arrest, police released Espinal on $100 bail for an August 17 appearance in Danbury Superior Court.

South Main/Swamp

Motorist William Adams, 25, of New Milford, who was driving a 2002 Mitsubishi Lancer southward on South Main Street, collided with a southbound 1995 Mitsubishi Galant, driven by Mary Kate Addyman, 18, of 48 Queen Street, near South Main Street’s intersection with Swamp Road at about 9:30 pm July 28, according to police.

There were no injuries. Police issued Adams a written warning for passing on the right.

Jeep Accident

Motorist Rebecca Cardoso, 23, of 16 Arrowhead Lane, who was driving a 1997 Jeep Wrangler, was driving eastward on High Bridge Road about 4 pm July 28, when the Jeep crossed the road’s center line while negotiating a curve, police said. The Jeep went out of control and then skidded back into the eastbound lane, after which it struck a tree and a fence, police said.

Newtown ambulance volunteers transported Cardoso to Danbury Hospital for treatment of injuries, police said. Botsford firefighters went to the accident. Police said the accident is under investigation.

Fairfield Hills

While using laser speed detection equipment on Wasserman Way, near Trades Lane, at about 7:30 pm on July 29, police detected motorist Mohammed M. Moussaviou, 34, of Bethel driving 45 miles per hour in a 30-mph zone, according to police. Police stopped Moussaviou to investigate and charged him with traveling too fast and with driving with a suspended license.

After processing the arrest, police released Moussaviou on a written promise to appear August 11 in Danbury Superior Court.

Cash Theft

Police report they learned on August 1 that sometime between 12:30 and 5 am on that date, someone stole $900 in cash from a dresser drawer in a bedroom of a South Main Street residence. The crime is fourth degree larceny. Police are investigating.

Dodgingtown Road

At about 1:12 pm July 30, police said they stopped motorist Adam Niedzwiecki, 40, of Shelton for driving fast on Dodgingtown Road.

Police said they investigated and arrested Niedzwiecki on charges of traveling too fast, driving while under suspension, and failure to change an address on a driver’s license. After he posted $240 bail, police released Niedzwiecki for an August 17 court appearance.

Rockywood Drive

A resident at a Rockywood Drive home heard a loud noise outside just after midnight on August 1, police said. The resident looked out the window saw a vehicle drive away. At about 9 am, the resident learned that the curbside mailbox was missing from the property, police said.

The mailbox bears a scenic picture and is valued at $50, police said. Police are investigating and ask anyone with information on the theft to contact them at 426-5841.

Ford Keys

On July 26, three Ford motor vehicle keys were found at Dickenson Park. The owner should contact police Sergeant Darlene Froehlich at 426-5841 to claim the keys.

Olds Off Obtuse

Motorist Anthony Gentile, Jr, 16, of Brookfield was driving a 1993 Oldsmobile Cutlass sedan southward on Obtuse Road about 11:16 am July 27, police report.

As the auto negotiated a curve, it slid off the right side of the road and went into a ditch, police said. Gentile was not injured. Police issued him a written warning for making a restricted turn.

Hawleyville Road

Police report a two-vehicle accident on southbound Hawleyville Road at its intersection with Mt Pleasant Road about 5:25 pm July 24.

Motorist Mahol Grant, 54, of Bethel, who was driving a 1994 Acura Legend, struck the rear end of a 2004 Saturn Ion driven by Donald Kerivan, 41, of Brookline, Mass., police said. There were no injuries. Police issued Grant a written warning for following too closely.

Corvette DUI

Motorist Louis J. Romano, 37, of 7 Sugarloaf Road was driving a 2001 Chevrolet Corvette westward on Quarry Ridge Road about 10 pm July 31, when the Corvette crossed into the eastbound lane, went off the eastbound road shoulder, struck two public utility cabinets, hit a tree, and then damaged a lawn at 2 Quarry Ridge Road, police said. Romano was not injured, police said.

Police said Romano left the scene of the accident and was located at a Quarry Ridge Road residence, after which police charged him with driving under the influence, evading responsibility, and failure to drive to the right.

After posting $500 bail, police released Romano from custody for an August 18 court appearance.

I-84 DUI

State police said they observed motorist Christopher E. Puffen, 32, of Bridgeport driving erratically on eastbound Interstate 84, west of Exit 9, about 3 am August 1, so they stopped him to investigate.

Puffen failed field sobriety tests, state police said. He was charged with driving under the influence, failure to drive in the established lane, a failure to renew a driver’s license, state police said.

After posting $500 bail, state police released Puffen for an August 16 court appearance.

Concrete Mixer

Police report an accident involving a 2000 Buick Century and a 2004 Advan concrete mixer that occurred about 2:45 pm August 2 on Wasserman Way.

Motorist Tracey Reeve, 31, of Danbury was driving the Buick eastward on Wasserman Way, as trucker George Parker, 54, of Southington was driving the concrete mixer westward there, police said.

Police report Reeve told them that something lodged in her eye, disrupting her vision and causing her to lose control of the Buick, after which it veered into the opposite lane and collided with the concrete mixer. Both vehicles were damaged, but there were no injuries, police said.

Police issued Reeve an infraction ticket for failure to drive to the right.

Subaru Off Road

Motorist Eric Taylor, 19, of 25 Pearl Street was driving a 1997 Subaru Impreza westward near 101  Castle Hill Road about 1:46 am August 3, when while approaching a sharp right curve, he lost control of the vehicle, struck curbing and then collided with a support cable for a utility pole, police said.

Taylor was not injured. Police said they issued Taylor an infraction ticket for failure to drive to the right.

Bicycle Found

Police report that a bicycle was found on July 28 on Old Green Road in Sandy Hook. The owner may claim the bicycle by contacting Sergeant Darlene Froehlich at 426-5841 at the police station.

SUV Vs Cadillac

At 12:01 am on August 2 at the traffic signal on Queen Street at the main entrance to Newtown Shopping Village, motorist Melissa Mason, 16, of 50 Deep Brook Road, who was driving a 2000 Chevrolet Tahoe sport-utility vehicle southward, rolled forward into the rear end of a southbound 1998 Cadillac DeVille driven by George Fatsy, 65, of Trumbull, police report. A passenger in the Cadillac complained of back pain, police said.

Police said they issued Mason an infraction ticket on a charge of following too closely and on a passenger restriction violation for driver who has had their license for less than three months. The Chevrolet carried a teenage friend of Mason’s as a passenger, police said.

Tahoe Into Trees

Motorist Jeanette Gonzalez, 18, of Fairfield, who was driving a 1999 Chevrolet Tahoe sport-utility vehicle southward on Poverty Hollow Road, near its intersection with Hattertown Road, drove off the road’s right shoulder about 6 pm August 2 and struck four small trees, police said.

Gonzalez was not injured. Police issued her an infraction ticket for making a restricted turn.

Mercedes Vs Kia

 Motorist Virginia Turnbull, 37, of Watertown, who was driving a 2004 Mercedes-Benz station wagon eastward on Wasserman Way, near the Exit 11 ramp of Interstate 84, at about 8:30 am August 3, struck the rear end of an eastbound 2004 Kia Amanti driven by Lucille Rocco, 59, of Surprise, Ariz., police said. There were no injuries. Police issued Turnbull and infraction ticket for following too closely.

SUV Off Road

Motorist Crystal Daiuto, 21, of Southbury, who was driving a 1989 Chevrolet Blazer westward on Wasserman Way about 11:11 pm August 1, lost control of the vehicle and went into some shrubbery and trees alongside the street, police said. In attempting to drive back onto the street, the Chevrolet struck some guardrailing, police said.

Daiuto was not injured. Police issued her a written warning for making a restricted turn.

Route 34 Crash

Motorist Stephen Petruck, 50, of Waterbury, who was driving a 1998 Chevrolet pickup truck eastward on Route 34 at about 6 pm August 1, spotted a westbound vehicle rounding a curve and traveling toward him in the eastbound lane, so Petruck swerved to avoid the vehicle, but went off the right road shoulder, striking 11 wooden guard posts, police said.

Petruck reported back pain, but declined medical treatment, police said. Police took no enforcement.
