Savings Bank Of Danbury

Creates Foundation, Offers Grants

DANBURY — Savings Bank of Danbury has announced the formation of the Savings Bank of Danbury Foundation. The foundation is committed to providing financial grants from $2,500 to $10,000 to nonprofit organizations in cities and towns in the greater Danbury area for education, community and economic development, health and human services, and arts and culture.

“Throughout our 155 years, Savings Bank of Danbury has focused its efforts on service,” said Hal Wibling, president, Savings Bank of Danbury. “In fact, our mission statement, ‘We are about people serving people,’ is the measure of our success. We value our role in supporting our neighbors and community with banking products and services. We are also pleased to serve our community with contributions, grants and volunteerism.

“In 2004, to further our commitment to the community, we have established a not-for-profit charitable foundation, Savings Bank of Danbury Foundation, which will help support community initiatives for years to come. The foundation will help strengthen our communities. We provide grants to organizations that are vital to communities’ well-being, growth, and prosperity,” he said.

Cities and towns served are Danbury, Bethel, Brookfield, Newtown, New Milford, New Fairfield, Sherman, Redding, Ridgefield, and Bridgewater. Foundation grants will be administered by a committee consisting of Savings Bank of Danbury corporations and directors.

The foundation is accepting applications for funding from 501(C)(3) nonprofit groups in the greater Danbury area. The foundation places particular focus on funding activities that support education, community and economic development, health and human service, and arts and culture. The grants will range from $2,500 to $10,000 and will be distributed in December.

Applications are being accepted through October 15 and may be obtained at the bank’s 220 Main Street office in Danbury, from its website at www.sbdanbury.com, or by calling Beth Ann Fetzer at 796-7514.

In 2003, the bank contributed more than $150,000 to numerous area nonprofit agencies. In addition, employees also participated in volunteer programs and initiatives ranging from March of Dimes WalkAmerica to United Way Day of Caring.

“We are proud that our bank’s strong legacy of community involvement continues,” said Mr Wibling. “Savings Bank of Danbury Foundation makes it very clear that we are committed to the people of the towns and cities we serve.”
