Two Garner Cellmates

Injure Selves At Prison

Two male inmates at the state’s high-security Garner Correctional Institution on Nunnawauk Road who are cellmates were transported to Danbury Hospital early on the morning of August 5 for treatment of apparently self-inflicted injuries, according to a state Department of Correction (DOC) spokesman.

Spokesman Ed Ramsey said the two inmates, who were not identified, apparently injured themselves in their cell at about 3:50 am. The Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps was dispatched to the prison at 3:54 am.

Mr Ramsey said that after receiving treatment at the Danbury Hospital emergency room, the inmates were returned to the prison.

State police and the DOC are investigating the incident. Further details on the nature of the incident were not available Thursday morning.
