On Saturday, September 14, the NHS Kindness Club will host a Day of Kindness. This free event is aimed at the youth of the town, but is open to residents of all ages.

With students returning to school soon, organizers would like to shine a spotlight on how kindness matters. Day of Kindness will run from noon to 4 pm, and will be filled with activities and events focusing on giving back.

Among those already committed to Day of Hope are Stars of Hope, who will have volunteers coming from Georgia, Texas, North Dakota, Missouri, New York and New Jersey; Newtown Kindness, Ben’s Bells Newtown, Hearts of Hope Newtown, and Actively Caring For People.

Comfort dogs Addie, Maggie and Spartacus will be at the high school.

There will be live music by The Adults, and yoga sessions led by a guest teacher.

There will also be music, face painting, dancing, snacks, and other fun stuff for all ages.

The event will be within the cafetorium of the high school, 12 Berkshire Road. (Please note this is a change of location within the building of the originally planned-for location. To reach the cafetorium, drive past the main entrance of the high school and travel around to the lower, rear entrance.)

There are openings for those who would like to participate; contact Lisa Sheridan at sheridanl@newtown.k12.ct.us.

There is an Event page set up for Day of Kindness on Facebook for anyone who would like to sign up for the event, or follow its developments.

Hundreds of unique Stars of Hope were hung on utility poles around Newtown on January 19, and most had simple messages of inspiration. Residents will have the opportunity to pay it forward when Stars of Hope participates in Day of Kindness at Newtown High School next month.
