DUI Arrest

On August 1, motorist Brian Dinse, 22, of Guilford, who was driving a 1999 Chevrolet pickup truck on the Exit 11 off-ramp for westbound Interstate 84, became involved in an accident, state police said.

There were no injuries. State police said they charged Dinse with driving under the influence and with failure to maintain position in the travel lane.

State police released Dinse for a court appearance after he posted a $500 nonsurety bail.

Toyota Vs Nissan

Police said that at about 2 pm on July 29, motorist Andrew Martinez, 19, of 182 Brushy Hill Road, who was driving a 2009 Toyota Camry sedan in the parking lot at Walgreens Pharmacy at 49 South Main Street, was exiting a parking space, as motorist Alexia Badick, 17, of 2 Honey Lane, who was driving a 2012 Nissan Sentra sedan, was attempting to enter an adjacent parking space.

The two vehicles collided. There were no injuries. Police took no enforcement.

Hawleyville Crash

Police report a two-vehicle crash at the intersection of Hawleyville Road and Mt Pleasant Road about 9 am on July 22, which caused extensive travel delays in the area.

Police said that motorist David Perry, 51, of Bethlehem, who was driving a 2007 Toyota Corolla sedan southward on Hawleyville Road, struck the rear end of a southbound 2010 Cadillac SRX SUV driven by Elizabeth Shimkevich, 55, of Watertown.

Police said they issued Perry a written warning for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart.

Road Rage

State police said that after receiving a report at about 12:18 pm on July 30 about a possible road rage incident, they responded to investigate the problem.

State police said that an unidentified male motorist told them that the driver of black Toyota RAV-4 SUV had brandished a “handgun” at him while both men were driving eastward on Interstate 84, near the Exit 8 interchange.

State police said the two vehicles then proceeded through Newtown. State police then stopped the driver of the Toyota to investigate on eastbound I-84’s Exit 15 off-ramp.

The driver of the Toyota, Kelby Sandoval, 23, of Waterbury told state police that the driver of the other vehicle had driven up behind him and flashed his headlights at the Toyota, after which Sandoval allegedly held up a knife. State police said they found a knife in the Toyota.

State police charged Sandoval with breach of peace. He was released on $1,000 bail for an August 10 court appearance.

Ramp Accident

State police said motorist Mark Urso, 17, of 20 Great Quarter Road, who was driving a 2004 Jeep Wrangler SUV about 6:27 pm on July 30 on eastbound Interstate 84’s Exit 10 on-ramp, struck some guardables along the road shoulder

There were no injuries. State police said Urso was traveling too fast for conditions.

 Interstate Incident

At about 10:40 am on July 29, motorist Theresa Koziell, 48, of Jefferson Township, Penn., who was driving a 2000 Honda Accord, stopped for traffic conditions on westbound Interstate 84, east of Exit 9, and was then struck from behind by motorist Eugene Ferrante, Jr, 54, of New Fairfield, who was driving a 2009 Ford F-150 pickup truck.

There were no injuries. State police issued Ferrante a written warning for following too closely.

DUI Incident

Police report a two-vehicle accident on Church Hill Road at its signalized intersection with the ramps for eastbound Interstate 84 at about 9 pm on August 4.

Police said motorist Daniel Flanagan, 36, of 8 Dayton Street was driving a 1999 Toyota Camry sedan westward on Church Hill Road.

Motorist John Romano, Jr, of Stamford, who was driving a 2006 Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck eastward on Church Hill Road, then stopped at a traffic signal at the intersection, according to police.

The Toyota then struck the Chevrolet, police said. There were no injuries.

After investigating, police charged Flanagan with driving under the influence and with failure to drive the right. Flanagan was released on $500 bail for an August 14 court appearance, police said.

Police said they issued Romano an infraction for a vehicle registration violation.

Car Vs Pole

Police said motorist William Morgan, 40, of Bethel was driving a 2010 Hyundai Elantra westward near 13 Sugar Street at about 3:54 pm on July 29, when the auto drove off the right road shoulder and struck a utility pole.

Morgan was then transported to Danbury Hospital for treatment of injuries, police said.

Police report they issued Morgan in infraction for making a restricted turn and for failure to wear a seat belt.

The incident caused travel delays in the Sugar Street area.
