California Man Charged With Internet Sex Crimes

Police this week arrested a California man, charging him with seven offenses stemming from his alleged illegal interaction with a local girl via the Internet.

Police said they arrested Steven Streigal, 38, of Marina Del Rey, Calif., on one count of illegal use of a computer to entice a minor to engage in sexual activity and six counts of risk of injury or impairing the morals of a minor. Streigal never had physical contact with the victim, police said.

An investigation based on an October 13, 2008, complaint resulted in police receiving an arrest warrant for Streigal from Danbury Superior Court on April 15. That complaint alleged that Streigal was having “inappropriate correspondence” via the Internet with the girl who was under age 16, police said.

 Police took Streigal into custody on the charges at about 11:30 am on August 4 at the Manhattan Criminal Court Building in New York City after an extradition waiver was signed. Youth Officer Gladys Pisani investigated the case.

After processing, police released Streigal from custody on $2,500 bail for an August 18 appearance in Danbury Superior Court.
