The next installment of the Sunday Cinema Series sponsored by Newtown Cultural Arts Commission will actually be a midweek offering. Some Like It Hot is set for Wednesday, August 19. Screenings at Edmond Town Hall Theatre, 45 Main Street, will be offered at 1 and 7 pm.

All tickets are $2.

Set in 1929, the 1959 film stars Jack Lemmon, Tony Curtis and Marilyn Monroe.

Lemmon and Curtis play musicians Jerry and Joe, who dress as women and join a girl band to avoid the gangsters whom they saw commit a murder as part of the St. Valentine’s Day Massacre.

Pretty soon Joe falls for Sugar (Monroe), one of the girls in the band. When dressed in men’s clothes, Joe pretends to be a millionaire. At the same time Joe E. Brown (Osgood Fielding III), an authentic playboy, falls for Jerry in drag.

The New York Times called the film “outrageously funny” as well as “a rib-tickling lampoon,” guaranteeing that anyone who sees the film will leave “chortling with glee” when Some Like It Hot was released nearly 55 years ago.

Sunday Cinema Series Coordinator Jen Rogers announced this week that all attendees will be offered a free popcorn during the Augsut screenings.

The last two movies in the 2015 series will be Breakfast at Tiffany’s, being screened on Sunday, November 8; and The Sound of Music on Sunday, December 13.

The next film in the Sunday Cinema Series will be a midweek special. Newtown Cultural Arts Commission will host two screenings of Some Like It Hot on Wednesday, August 19.
