A Basic Life Lesson

To the Editor:

Sitting outside having my morning coffee this morning I saw nature’s neighborhood support group first hand. Out of the blue, this large predator-looking bird lands on a tree branch. Suddenly one of the sparrow-type birds starts screeching like crazy. Suddenly you can feel the increased tension in the trees. The surrounding trees start to come alive with the sound of screeching birds. One representative from every nest came and perched on all the surrounding branches around the predator. More and more birds kept showing up like they sent out to other neighborhoods for reinforcements. As more and more birds showed up, the circle around the predator got smaller and smaller. Eventually the predator flew away and the neighborhood birds all had a little “thanks for the help” chirp to each other as they all flew back to their nests. Nature shows us some basic life lessons. United we stand, divided we fall.
