Golf Course Plans Revised

Professional golfer Peter Belmont has submitted revised plans for his proposed

golf course to the Conservation Commission.

Commission members considered the redrawn plans at their February 28 meeting,

but took no action on them.

Initially, Mr Belmont had proposed that an entire 3.6-acre pond be filled in

as part of his proposal to build a commercial 18-hole, Par-54 golf course in

Botsford at the site of the D'Addario Sand and Stone Company's sand and gravel

mine at 2-18 Buttonshop Road.

But at a February 14 Conservation Commission hearing, commission member Cathy

Andrews objected to filling in the entire pond, instead asking that Mr Belmont

fill in only a portion of it to preserve aquatic habitat for small fish there.

Mr Belmont's revisions address that concern and depict only a portion of the

pond filled in. The changed plans would result in a land bridge being built

across the pond, creating two smaller ponds from the existing body of water. A

small waterfall would be created where water flows through a stream channel

from one pond to the other.

Conservation Commission members are expected to act on Mr Belmont's request

for a wetlands construction permit at their March 13 meeting.

Mr Belmont has proposed the construction of a golf course and driving range on

the 130-acre site which has been surface mined. All holes on the golf course

would be Par 3 holes, ranging in length from 85 yards to 250 yards.

Besides approval from the Conservation Commission, Mr Belmont also requires

approvals from the Planning and Zoning Commission, the state Department of

Environmental Protection and the US Army Corps of Engineers.
