P&Z Plans Several Hearings On Subdivision Proposals

B Y A NDREW G OROSKO

In its continuing review of residential development applications, the Planning

and Zoning Commission (P&Z) is scheduled to conduct five public hearings

Thursday, November 7, on five home building proposals involving 74 building

lots on almost 195 acres.

The hearings are scheduled to start at 8 pm at the Newtown Middle School

auditorium, 11 Queen Street. The P&Z's regular business meeting is slated to

begin there at 7:30 pm.

The proposals for 74 house lots represent more than one-fifth of the

approximately 350 house lots that are pending action, awaiting public

hearings, or anticipated for submission to the P&Z.

Bennetts Farm Associates is seeking a resubdivision for its continuing

development of the Bennetts Farm residential development in Sandy Hook.

The associates propose the creation of Bennetts Farm, Section V. They are

seeking the resubdivision of Lot 64 there into 36 residential lots on 84

acres.

The property is located on the northerly extension of Charter Ridge Drive, in

the vicinity of Osborne Hill Road.

High Meadow Farm Associates is seeking a resubdivision for its continuing

development of the Cobbler's Ridge residential development in Sandy Hook.

The associates propose that Lot 33 and other land be resubdivided into 18

residential lots on 34 acres.

The property is located on the northerly extension of Cobbler's Mill Road and

on Mountain Manor Road.

Three applicants want to create a subdivision called Autumn Ridge in the

Butterfield Road area.

Marjorie S. Fieldman, Judith D. Kaufman and David G. Kaufman want to develop

10 houses on 42 acres off Butterfield Road.

High Meadow Farm Associates is seeking P&Z approval to create a development

called Eagle Ridge on the northerly side of Alberts Hill Road.

The resubdivision proposal consists of 7 building lots on almost 17 acres.

Dolores S. Allen and Paul E. Allen have applied for a subdivision of land near

the intersection of Taunton Lake Road and Mt Pleasant Road.

The Allens want to create three building lots on 16 acres. The subdivision is

unnamed.

The P&Z's five public hearings come amid a push by the Newtown Neighborhoods

Coalition to change the town's land use rules to make it more difficult to

build new homes.

The coalition has been conducting a campaign in recent months to create the

legal mechanisms to decrease the potential housing densities in various

residential zones to hinder the suburbanization of Newtown.
