Selectmen May Decide To Meet Less Often
First Selectman Bob Cascella has proposed holding one Board of Selectmen
meeting a month for the next calendar year, instead of the standard two per
month.
The selectmen are expected to set their 1997 meeting schedule at the next
meeting of the board December 16.
Noting the shortness of the meetings (Monday's was 40 minutes), Mr Cascella
said a longer meeting once a month would be more practical than two shorter
meetings.
However, Selectmen Gary Fetzer said meeting twice a month allows him to find
out "What's going on in town." He asked to keep the meetings bi-weekly.
"I'd rather have two meetings and leave it to your discretion to cancel a
meeting if there's nothing to do," Mr Fetzer said.
Mr Cascella said, if needed, he could still call an emergency meeting of the
board.
Selectman Jim Mooney said he was all for the idea of one less meeting a month,
pointing out that the selectmen are currently committed to as many as nine
night meetings per month.
Mr Cascella said he would bring in the calendar at the next meeting to help
the board in its decision.
