Alfred Frenkel
Alfred "Fred" Frenkel, 75, of Stratford, owner of the Newtown Insurance
Service for the past 40 years, died Thursday, September 28, after a long
illness.
The husband of Paula Frenkel of Stratford, Mr Frenkel was a member of the
Newtown Board of Realtors for more than 35 years.
He was born in Sopron, Hungary, the son of Sigmund and Paula Frenkel. He
served in the English Army, in the Jewish Brigade in Palestine, before the
formation of the state of Israel.
Mr Frenkel was a member of Congregation Rodeph Sholom and the Jewish Center
for Community Services.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Susan
and Donni Levizon of Sandy Hook; his son and daughter-in-law, Peter and Joanne
Frenkel of Branford, and his brothers, Dr Henry Frenkel of Fairfield and
George Frenkel of Pittsfield, Mass. Mr Frenkel also is survived by his
grandchildren, Miya and Elana Levizon, and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral service was held Sunday from the Abraham L. Green and Son Funeral
Home in Bridgeport with interment following at the Workmen's Circle Cemetery
in Fairfield.

Louis J. Lorenzo
Louis J. Lorenzo, 95, who opened Lorenzo's Restaurant in Sandy Hook in the
late 1920's, died Friday, September 29, at Laurel Wood Rehabilitation Center
in Ridgefield.
He was the husband of the late Mildred Drew Lorenzo and had previously lived
on Riverside Road in Sandy Hook.
Mr Lorenzo was born in North Adams, Mass., on January 5, 1900, a son of Joseph
and Theresa Delto Lorenzo.
By the late 1920s, he was living in Bridgeport where he and two of his
brothers owned and operated a grocery store. He was also a Boy Scout leader
and while camping with his troops at Lake Zoar became interested in the Sandy
Hook area.
In the late 1920's he opened Lorenzo's Restaurant on Riverside Road, which
became the area's first pizza restaurant in 1946.
Mr Lorenzo retired in the 1970's and moved to Florida, returning to Sandy Hook
after his wife's death in 1989.
He is survived by a son, John Lorenzo of Southbury; two daughters, Theresa
Lorenzo of Sandy Hook and Jeannie Loren of Bethlehem; 10 grandchildren, and
nine great-grandchildren.

The funeral service was held Monday, October 2, at Honan Funeral Home, 58 Main
Street, Newtown. Burial was in St. Rose Cemetery.
