TRACTOR INADVERTENTLY OILS DODGINGTOWN ROAD FOR NEARLY A MILE (A8)

A farm tractor found to be inadvertently leaking hydraulic fluid as it

travelled through Dodgingtown on Dodgingtown Road midaftermon on June 29

created an oil slick on the eastbound lane extending almost 4,000 feet.

The fluid spilled from an agricultural tractor between Dodgingtown Garage at

61 Dodgingtown Road and George's Pizza and Restaurant at 1 Dodgingtown Road.

The tractor was operated by Paproski Farm, said Fire Marshal George Lockwood.

Because the spillage was accidental in nature, no charges are being pressed,

according to the fire marshal.

Mr Lockwood said an old hydraulic fluid line ruptured on the tractor, causing

four gallons or more of the very slippery substance to leak onto the state

highway. Because of the nature of the leak, it appeared that more fluid than

four gallons had leaked onto the asphalt pavement, he noted.

Police and fire officials went to the scene to alert motorists of the slippery

road conditions on the 4,000-foot stretch of highway. The spillage didn't

result in any traffic accidents, however. The unnamed tractor's driver wasn't

aware that hydraulic fluid was leaking from the vehicle as he drove through

Dodgingtown.

To rectify the slippery road conditions, the town sent a highway department

truck to the spill site to sand the roadway. Mr Lockwood said he expects the

town will bill the farm for the sand used to remedy the fluid spillage

problem.
