Danbury Man Dies Following Hawleyville Road Motorcycle Crash

A Danbury resident lost his life after the motorcycle he was operating collided with a delivery truck while both were traveling on Hawleyville Road (State Route 25) last night.

Newtown Police, Hawleyville Volunteer Fire, Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps and a paramedic were all dispatched to Hawleyville Road near its intersection with North Ridge Drive at approximately 5:49 pm Monday, April 27, after witnesses contacted Newtown Emergency Communications Center to report the crash.

The initial investigation has revealed Christopher Guallpa-Lema, 18, of Danbury, was operating a black Kawasaki motorcycle northbound on Hawleyville Road. The motorcycle struck the rear of a FedEx delivery truck that was also traveling on Hawleyville Road near North Ridge Drive.

Guallpa-Lema was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Officers spoke to multiple witnesses and the FedEx driver, according to a statement released April 28.

Hawleyville Road remained closed between North Ridge Drive and Currituck Road until approximately 10 pm. Brookfield Police Department assisted with traffic control.

Hawleyville firefighters returned to the scene around sunset to provide lighting for the investigation.

The case will remain under investigation by the detective bureau and accident reconstruction team. Anyone with information regarding the crash is asked to contact Newtown PD Detective Chelsea Harold, 203-426-5841.
